How will you make an impact?

Lead the governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives for the procurement organization. This position will be responsible for the compliance of the procurement governance framework, policies, and processes, and track potential risks arising from internal and external compliances and supply risks. Identify and develop process improvements, standard methodologies, and tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the procurement organization. This role will provide guidance and work with procurement team members, business personnel, and support functions on all aspects of procurement compliance.

With minimal supervision, operates as an internal consultant across a global network of divisions, groups, functions, and categories to assess the urgency and importance of risks identified and drive risk mitigation initiatives. Directs on-time, quality delivery of work products; lead implementation economics, risk, and communications. You will effectively develop, maintain, communicate, and continuously improve the governance framework.

What will you do?

Scale of Responsibilities

  • Define strategy and key elements of effective risk management and governance programs for internal and external compliance and risk
  • Create, maintain, communicate and implement procurement governance processes and policies to drive internal compliance
  • Define key controls for the identified policies and monitor procurement compliance
  • Drive continuous improvement of procurement governance policies framework based on emerging external and internal needs
  • Promote and support a culture of compliance, risk mitigation and corporate accountability at various levels of the organization
  • Use data to and assess potential mitigations through scenario planning, identify trends, risks, and controls required. Identify loopholes and recommend risk aversion measures and cost savings
  • Provide recommendations and institute realistic changes that reduce or eliminate compliance risks.
  • Define and implement measures to address risk, facilitates agreement of proposed solutions, drive actions and continue to follow up with relevant personnel to monitor intended outcomes.
  • Collaborate with various personnel across the procurement organization and compliance SMEs in the organization to track and implement compliances aimed at effectively mitigating supply chain risks
  • Track and update or implement policies. Introduce procurement governance training materials, policies and sessions to ensure the relevant personnel become familiar with all procurement requirements
  • Develops effective communication strategies and deliver executive-level presentations to propose key initiatives, provide critical implementation updates, operational line-of-sight, and demonstrate delivery of value within the organization. Identify recommendations to improve processes and internal controls following compliance reviews.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and drives practice in Procurement processes to drive internal compliance. Coordinates efforts to continually improve those processes and manages the change associated with implementation of initiatives across the Procurement function and the wider business.
  • Work with the internal SMEs and monitor regulatory, legislative, and industry specific compliance requirements that could have an impact on supply base, and define controls that can be applied by the procurement function to meet those requirements
  • Conducts high quality analysis of processes and systems using analytical and quantitative methods and tools to identify fact-based and focused improvement opportunities.
  • Defines programs and project to meet the relevant internal and external compliance requirement. processes and manages the change associated with implementation of initiatives across the Procurement function and the wider business.
  • Applies consistent project management approaches and processes, identifies and reports roadblocks and variances to project plans, ensures projects are on schedule and achieve stated objectives
  • Orchestrates governance, including regular cadence of engagement sessions (schedule, prepare for, run and drive follow-ups for key meetings)
  • Coordinates with team members to identify and document issues. Facilitates issue resolution including appropriate attention to address program risk
  • Maintains document repository and file structure as well as access rights; own cataloging and monitoring version control on key documents
  • Uses PPI business systems and processes to drive continuous improvement

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Leads global, geographically distributed teams to achieve desired outcomes
  • Collaborates across the procurement and other functions to co-create and deliver solutions to compliance and risk related issues for areas of responsibility where analysis of situations requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives and ways of working.
  • Lead change management activities and project implementation in an effective manner to ensure continuous improvement strategy is successfully delivered in an organization with operations across multiple countries and operating entities
  • Is responsible for interfacing, influencing and alignment with relevant personnel, i.e. Category Management, Business Partnering, PMO teams, Site Sourcing, , Accounts Payable, Legal, ESG and Compliance teams. Influences the key partners in order to achieve key targets on time and within plan, develop relationships within the company to complete assigned projects.
  • Facilitates breakthrough thinking by integrating diverse views while participating in targeted content deep dive sessions to enable problem solving.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelors and/or Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, or Science. MBA desirable.
  • Certification in Project Management is desirable.

Experience

  • Eight plus years' experience in areas of procurement governance, procurement risk, procurement compliance activities, leading complex, global programs and project initiatives function
  • Life Sciences, BioTech, or Pharma industry preferred
  • Experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Category Management preferred
  • Experience in introducing procurement policies, systems, processes and ways of working, process improvement background (PPI, Lean, Six Sigma, etc) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Understanding of end-to-end supplier lifecycle processes including supplier risk assessment and onboarding, ongoing due diligence and supplier offboarding
  • Project management skills—Ability to strategically organize complex projects, including identifying, collecting, and analyzing relevant evidence, conducting interviews, and writing reports. Demonstrated ability to make recommendations on and deliver assigned projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills—Ability to develop, facilitate, and implement strategic project plans
  • Communication skills—Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to effectively convey concepts in understandable terms, structuring ideas in a clear and concise manner. Adept both in writing and verbally; deliver oral presentations to diverse groups.
  • Influencing and managing change - Ability to maintain balance amidst opposition and change. Challenge current practices, seek alternative options and challenge convention. Ability to take initiative, reason logically, and be creative in developing and introducing new ideas influencing senior leaders and personnel at all levels
  • Problem Solving skills—ability to use analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate with and present to leadership. Ability to efficiently organize forums and coordinate communication
  • Team management - Can work independently, within a team, and collaboratively across teams. Ability to lead matrix project teams of peers and other partners across multiple sites and platforms in a virtual office environment, and  navigate within a matrix environment,
  • Intellectually curious, self-starter, requiring minimal supervision. Enthusiastic, driven work ethic, with a can-do attitude. Passion for working in a fast paced and innovative business environment.
  • Good to have working knowledge of procurement processes, category management, strategic sourcing, overall procurement functional knowledge. 
  • Strong proficiency in Project Management tools, process mapping tools, MS-Office tools (specifically, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint), comfort with data and financial competence.
  • Ability to travel between 10-30% on an annual basis
