Job Description:

  • Provide scientific expertise to clients in specialized area of pathology
  • In collaboration with management, lead or participate in projects to develop new or improved servicers or technologies
  • Protocols: To advise on all aspects of anatomic pathology requirements in toxicity studies, as required
  • Necropsy: To supervise necropsies, as required, to ensure proper dissection, description, sampling and preservation of tissues in accordance with the protocol and provide scientific guidance to necropsy technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols and SOPs.
  • Histopathology: Perform the microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections from toxicological studies assigned to the jobholder and correlate these findings with necropsy, organ weight and clinical pathology findings.
  • Reports: To compile pathology reports of microscopic and gross pathology for all toxicology studies assigned under the general guidance of another senior pathologist, while meeting report deadlines. To communicate the significance of pathologic findings to study directors, clients and other individuals.
  • Interaction: Maintain working relationships with internal and external clients in order to ensure client satisfaction with the Pathology department deliverables. Liaise with pathologists, clinical pathology technicians, study directors, report production personnel.
  • Advisory: To assist and advise study directors, and operational personnel in necropsy and histology in the scientific and operational aspects of the data generation and review. To supervise, review and advise pathologists in the pathology department. Provide experienced pathology support in the interpretation of chemical and drug-induced toxicology findings in safety studies.
  • To perform internal Management Reviews as required for internal quality control and/or training purposes. To perform internal and external formal Peer Reviews for clients as required.
  • Organizational: To advise on the general areas of operational management required to maintain and improve efficiency and image of the pathology group such as computerization, publications, Veterinary Services support etc.
  • Development: Initiate or participate in special projects or develop an area of expertise on an as needed basis.
