The Senior Research Associate is responsible for all aspects of conducting scientific studies using standard to advanced in vitro techniques of molecular and cellular biology or electrophysiology.

RESPONSIBILITIES Independently conducts and troubleshoots experiments according to established study protocols. Keeps up to date with relevant scientific and technical development. Organizes and maintains experimental records. Records experimental data in lab notebooks and reports findings to appropriate individuals. Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses. Independently analyzes data including statistics and interprets results. Participates and presents data and findings in group meetings and research seminars. Maintains clear and effective communication with director and other colleagues. Using independent discretion on how to reach desired outcome, performs one or more of the following: ­Conducts and designs in vitro cell-based assays for CNS target identification and validation. - Establishes functional cell-based assays as needed.

- Proactively helps to improve daily laboratory activities such as cell culture, immunofluorescence, electrophysiology, quantitative immunoassays, and other standard biologic laboratory techniques.

- Learns to lead scientific projects including planning, execution and adhering to timelines. Performs general laboratory housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. Responsibility for laboratory efficiency, compliance and cleanliness. Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP's and internal guidelines. Supports researcher with presentations, preparing of figures and writing for scientific manuscripts. Supports Laboratory maintenance including inventory, equipment and reagent preparation. Keeps laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipt. Performs other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS Reporting: Reports directly to the Director, NeuroDiscovery Laboratory. Managerial: Individual contributor. Other: Primary relationships will be with other NDL employees in the lab and office. QUALIFICATIONS 0Education: BS in biological sciences is required. MS is a plus. Educational emphasis in neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology and electrophysiology is preferred. Professional Experience: Minimum of 8 years of related experience for BS-level candidates, 5 years of related experience for candidates with MS degree. Extensive experience conducting a wide variety of basic to complex experimental procedures. Reports directly to the Director, NeuroDiscovery Laboratory. Ability to independently design, document and execute experiments. In-depth knowledge of standard molecular biology, especially neuroscience or stem cell research. Ability to independently analyze and present data to scientific team. Excellent record keeping, attention to detail and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with others in a team laboratory and office environment. Ability to change tasks quickly and still maintain attention. Thorough knowledge of MS Office products. Workweeks exceeding 40 hours are required as necessary. Required to travel occasionally to meetings and tradeshows. Essential Physical Requirements: Uses laboratory equipment which requires reaching, fine manipulation, grasping, and viewing objects.
