Associate Director, Corporate Communications

PURPOSE

Helps develop and execute global media relations and communications plans to drive corporate reputation, including media strategy planning and proactive media outreach, and ensure alignment with IQVIA’s global and regional business units. 

The Associate Director will oversee the implementation of tactical plans to secure positive recognition and media coverage for IQVIA’s leadership that highlights business milestones and capabilities. The Associate Director will also help shape the story to explain the strategy, vision and leadership of IQVIA as a human data science company.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in strategic development and implementation of communication programs to elevate and protect IQVIA’s reputation among external stakeholders by obtaining media coverage of the company's capabilities in trade, business, and general media.
  • Serves as a reliable back-up on managing the budgetary and AP process for the corporate communications team.
  • Participates on regular calls with the PR agency of record to help coordinate communications activities with marketing groups for various Global Business Units and the corporate communications calendar. 
  • Serves as a reliable, back-up on global crisis communications issues at the discretion and direction of the Vice President, Corporate Communications. 
  • Serves as the Communications lead for M&A activities to ensure message consistency, alignment to corporate objectives and compliance with corporate practices/policies.
  • Coordinates development of messages to shape company reputation. 
  • Implements external communication programs to support business goals and enhance global understanding of corporate strategy.
  • Works collaboratively with key internal stakeholders, including Corporate Communications, Regional Communications and Marketing colleagues, as well as the global and regional business units, to identify compelling stories and case studies.  
  • Develops and edits corporate communication materials, including press releases, media alerts and media Q&As aligned to business priorities and to support related announcements – specifically serving as the primary author of corporate press releases.
  • In collaboration with agency partner, develops and maintains a comprehensive external communications tactical plan within trade publications/ professional journals. 
  • Conducts spokesperson preparation for media interview opportunities and development of associated messaging aligned to organizational priorities.
  • Assists in managing issues requiring Corporate Communications input.
  • Helps identify reputation-enhancing corporate and executive visibility opportunities. 
  • Tracks, monitors and analyzes news to understand the evolving external environment, competitor activities, and who in the media is writing about them.
  • Uses digital media, including social media, and other technological applications to enhance corporate communication.
  • Understands and applies best practices in communication measurement.
  • Provides operational support to the external communications function by identifying, creating and implementing opportunities to provide scalable support to the business, improve processes, efficiencies and alignment across the enterprise.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; proven experience in developing clear, concise plans and communications under tight deadlines
  • Skill in clearly communicating complex technical information to lay audiences
  • Crisis/issue management experience
  • Familiarity with metrics-based communications planning, media strategy, and stakeholder relationship approaches
  • Adept at working across matrix organizations
  • Good understanding healthcare industry issues and environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with media and manage reporter relationships; experience pitching and communicating confidently with media
  • Excellent teamwork skills to work effectively with Marketing and Communications colleagues and multiple business units across the globe
  • Good project management skills and ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to handle confidential information according to company and department policies and good judgment
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure


MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree in Communication, Journalism or related field and at least 10 years of experience in corporate communications and public relations; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
