此外,阿片类药物成瘾已成为一场全国性危机,每年有近 50,000 人因阿片类药物过量服用而死亡,每年近 785 亿美元用于阿片类药物滥用和成瘾。
目前可用的疼痛治疗方法,即阿片类镇痛药,效果有限,并可能导致大量副作用和并发症,包括依赖性、药效学耐受性、镇静、胃肠道问题、呼吸抑制、免疫抑制和荷尔蒙变化。
有效治疗疼痛需要对疼痛进行准确评估,但目前诊断和评估疼痛的方法依赖于主观自我报告,包括使用视觉和数字疼痛量表。
描述疼痛的主观性质使其几乎无法量化,因此难以治疗和监测。

- 慢性疼痛(> 3 个月);当前未使用非处方阿片类药物(< 1 个月);能够并愿意遵守预定的访问和其他与研究相关的程序以完成研究;愿意并能够给予知情同意。
排除标准:
- 诊断(根据 DSM-IV 的定义): 任何精神障碍(终生);饮食失调(当前或过去一年内);强迫症(终生));智力低下。
- 最近 3 个月内有药物或酒精滥用或依赖史(根据 DSM-IV 标准)(尼古丁和咖啡因除外)。
- 受试者正在服用临床上不适合停药的苯二氮卓类药物。
- 由于营养不良、精神病或高自杀风险,受试者需要快速的临床反应。
- 神经系统疾病或侮辱,例如,最近的中风 (CVA),这会使受试者面临癫痫发作或 tDCS 神经元损伤的风险。

对于访问 1-5(tDCS 治疗访问),研究人员将从 0.5mA 开始增加到 0.75mA,持续 5 分钟。
