Inclusion Criteria:
- Patients expected to require mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours
Exclusion Criteria:
- Age <18 years,
- Pregnancy,
- HIV,
- Blood leukocytes counts <1000 cells/mm3,
- Solid or haematological tumour,
- Immunosuppressive therapy
