Survival Outcomes of Residual Disease in Patients With Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Following Neoadjuvant Therapy: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer associated with a poor prognosis. Although neoadjuvant therapy improves outcomes in patients who achieve a pathological complete response, the presence of residual disease after treatment remains associated with an increased risk of recurrence and death. This retrospective cohort study aims to evaluate the survival outcomes of patients with residual disease following neoadjuvant therapy for TNBC and to assess the association between clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes, including disease-free survival and overall survival

Study Population

Adult female patients with histologically confirmed triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who received neoadjuvant systemic therapy followed by definitive surgery and were treated at the study institution during the study period. Data will be collected retrospectively from medical records to evaluate the association between residual disease after neoadjuvant therapy and survival outcomes.

Description

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Female patients aged ≥18 years. Histologically confirmed triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Received standard neoadjuvant systemic therapy. Underwent definitive breast surgery after completion of neoadjuvant therapy. Availability of postoperative pathological assessment documenting residual disease or pathological complete response (pCR).

Complete clinical, pathological, treatment, and follow-up data available in the medical records.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients with metastatic disease at initial diagnosis. Patients who did not complete neoadjuvant therapy or did not undergo definitive surgery.

Patients with incomplete or missing essential clinical, pathological, or follow-up data.

Patients with a history of another primary malignancy that could affect survival analysis.
