LabCorp is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join their Specimen Accessioning team in RTP, NC.  The Specimen Accessioner will be responsible for performing specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures.

The schedule for this position will be: This is a First Shift Position: Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am to 7:00pm.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • No relevant experience is required
  • Previous medical or production experience is preferred
  • Proficient computer and typing skills  
  • Must pass standardized color vision test
  • Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and tissue samples
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs, work in protective equipment and sit/stand for long periods of time
  • Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work overtime when needed

Receive unaccessioned specimens, unpack and sort samples, accession samples into LCLS and Exemplar computer systems, route specimens to appropriate testing laboratory. Documents incoming and outgoing specimen tracking by utilizing the LCA SRS Tracking system. Prepare specimens for sendout to other LCA laboratories or referral laboratories.

  • Follows the laboratory’s procedure for receiving, unpacking, accessioning, order entry and shipping specimen shipments.

    • Electronically documents receipt of shipment and specimens in the LCA SRS system.

    • Performs accessioning for the LCLS system.

    • Performs order entry in the Exemplar system.

    • Performs order entry in the Dianon DEC system.

    • Electronically tracks samples out of DEC Accessioning to the appropriate testing laboratory.

    • Completes sendout paperwork per SOP for samples being sent to other LCA or referral laboratories.

    • Packs outgoing samples per SOP for samples being sent to other LCA or referral laboratories.

    • Assists in unpacking regional shipments

    • Records initials on all paperwork to indicate work performed by individual.

    • Understands that all patient information is confidential.

  • Follows the laboratory’s procedure for data storage.

    • Organizes, stores paperwork on completed shipments.

    • Images requisitions and attachments for long term storage.

  • Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies and maintains appropriate logs and records as required.

    • Performs temperature reading documentation as assigned.

    • Performs assigned bench top cleaning.

    • Notifies supervisor or lead of any failure or adverse trend in shipments.

  • Adheres to the laboratory’s safety policies.

    • Wears proper PPE when handling specimens.

    • Discards biohazard waste properly.

    • Notifies supervisor immediately of any lab accident or exposure incident.

  • Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, completes weekly inventory audit as assigned.

  • Participates in required Continuing Education activities.

  • Serves as an example and resource for less experienced Technician personnel.

  • Adheres to lab policies and protocols.

  • Shows a high level of respect for all lab personnel, supervisor and directors.

  • Shows willingness to perform duties until they are complete.

  • Attends all required meetings and represents laboratory in a professional manner.
