Estudio de intervención de losartán para la reducción de la hipertensión (LIFE) (0954-133)

Un estudio paralelo triple ciego para investigar el efecto de losartán frente a atenolol en la reducción de la morbilidad y la mortalidad en pacientes hipertensos con hipertrofia ventricular izquierda
El estudio LIFE se realizó entre 1995 y 2001.
Este estudio se realizó en 9193 pacientes con presión arterial alta y engrosamiento de la cámara de bombeo principal del corazón.
Los resultados mostraron que después de un tiempo de tratamiento promedio de 4,8 años, el tratamiento basado en losartán fue mejor que el tratamiento basado en atenolol para reducir el riesgo de sufrir un accidente cerebrovascular.
Los principales resultados del estudio se publicaron en Dahlof et al.

- Edad 55 a 80 años
- Masculinos y femeninos
- Hipertensión (160-200/95-115 mm Hg
- ECG evidencia de hipertrofia ventricular izquierda
Criterio de exclusión:
- Necesidad de tratamiento con inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de angiotensina, bloqueadores de los receptores de angiotensina de etiqueta abierta o bloqueadores beta
- Infarto de miocardio o accidente cerebrovascular dentro de los 6 meses
