Description détaillée
Une conception d'étude croisée randomisée, contrôlée et en simple aveugle a été utilisée, et les trois variables indépendantes étaient la thérapie de manipulation vertébrale (SMT), une contraction isométrique volontaire maximale de flexion plantaire de 10 secondes (MVIC) ou SMT précédant immédiatement le MVIC (SMT + MVIC) . L'ordre de traitement a été randomisé pour chacune des trois séances avant le protocole de stimulation du nerf tibial Hmax/Mmax.
Chacune des quatre variables dépendantes a été évoquée lors du protocole de stimulation du réflexe H du nerf tibial à la fin de chaque séance, et comprenait le rapport Hmax/Mmax (%) des muscles gastrocnémiens et soléaires et le couple de contraction isométrique se produisant à Hmax et à Mmax. Hmax, l'amplitude du réflexe H la plus élevée, est une indication de la plus grande activation réflexe possible ; en tant que tel, il s'agit d'une estimation du nombre de motoneurones qu'un sujet est capable d'activer dans un état donné. Des augmentations supplémentaires de l'intensité de stimulation amènent l'onde M suivante à atteindre son amplitude la plus élevée, Mmax. Mmax est un potentiel d'action musculaire composé (CMAP) qui représente l'activation complète du muscle. Spécifique à l'enquête actuelle, Mmax a indiqué l'activation du volume total du pool de motoneurones (MN) gastrocnémiens/soléaires.
Étant donné que Hmax est une inférence du nombre de MN recrutés et que Mmax constitue l'ensemble du pool de neurones moteurs, la proportion de l'ensemble du pool de MN capable d'être recruté peut être estimée avec le rapport Hmax/Mmax. Le rapport Hmax/Mmax a été déterminé en divisant les amplitudes crête à crête EMG (mV) évoquées à Hmax par les amplitudes crête à crête Mmax EMG précédentes. Différences de chacune des quatre variables dépendantes (rapports Hmax/Mmax des gastrocnémiens et du soléaire et les couples de contraction de pointe évoqués à Hmax et Mmax) suivant chaque forme de traitement de SMT, MVIC ou SMT+MVIC délivrée au cours des trois séances de collecte de données sur trois des jours distincts ont été déterminés avec une ANOVA à mesures répétées à deux voies (traitement × point dans le temps). Les changements en pourcentage par rapport au départ ont également été calculés pour chacune des variables dépendantes, et le même type d'ANOVA a été utilisé pour déterminer les différences dans les effets intra-sujets de chaque traitement.

Critère d'intégration:
- Au moins un an d'expérience en entraînement contre résistance et achèvement actuel d'au moins trois séances d'entraînement par semaine
- Les hommes devaient être capables de squatter une charge minimale de 1,5 x leur poids corporel
- Les femmes devaient être capables de s'accroupir 1 fois leur poids corporel
Critère d'exclusion:
- Toute douleur dans le bas du dos, l'abdomen ou les jambes et/ou les interventions chirurgicales effectuées dans ces régions
