通常の状況下では、上気道と気道は、吸気ガス調整として知られるプロセスである、吸入空気の加湿と加温において重要な役割を果たします。 このプロセスは、ガスを効果的に調整し、呼吸上皮の構造と機能を損傷する潜在的なリスクを軽減するために不可欠です。 経口気管チューブや気管切開カニューレの使用などの気道器具は、吸気ガスの生理学的調整を妨げます。 さらに、侵襲的機械換気 (IVM) または非侵襲的機械換気 (NIMV) を受けている患者が経験する高流量と併せて、冷たく乾燥した医療用ガスの投与は、この好ましくない状態を悪化させます。 したがって、たとえ短期間の介入であっても、供給されるガスを調整するための外部装置の組み込みが不可欠になります。
吸入ガスを調整するためのさまざまなデバイスがあり、基本的にはパッシブ加湿システム (HMEF) とアクティブ (または加熱) システムです。 加湿能力と長所と短所を考慮すると、吸入ガスの調整にはパッシブ システムとアクティブ システムの両方が適しています。
この研究の仮説は、ラテンアメリカの医療チームは、実装の技術的側面と診療所の両方の観点から、加湿システムに関する知識が限られているということです。
