Kuvaus
Sisällyttämiskriteerit:
Prenataaliset vähäriskiset, terveet, aikuiset naiset (yli 18-vuotiaat), mukaan lukien:
- Pystyy puhumaan ja ymmärtämään englantia
- Naiset, joilla on yksittäinen raskaus
- Pystyy liikkumaan ilman liikkumisrajoituksia (eli ei vaikeuksia nousta istumapaikalta seisomaan)
- Alle luokan III liikalihavuus (BMI <40 kg/m neliö) synnytyshoidon alussa
- Ei aktiivisia infektioita, kuten HIV, B-hepatiitti, C-hepatiitti, HSV-epidemia (profylaktisesti hyväksyttävä), GBS-positiivinen on hyväksyttävä
- Ei olemassa olevia sairauksia, kuten: sydänsairaus, hallitsematon astma, minkä tahansa tyyppinen diabetes, krooninen verenpainetauti tai muu sairaus, joka vaatii jatkuvaa tarkkailua ja/tai toimintarajoituksia
Ei riskialttiita raskaustiloja: mukaan lukien preeklampsia, raskaudenaikainen hypertensio, ennenaikainen raskaus, monisikiö, päihteiden väärinkäyttö, istukan irtoaminen tai muu selittämätön emättimen verenvuoto, edellinen keisarileikkaus, epäilty sikiön makrosomia (>4500gm) tai kohdunsisäinen kasvurajoitus (<10 persentiili) , tai muu tila, joka edellyttää jatkuvaa tarkkailua ja/tai toimintarajoituksia
Työelämään osallistumisen kriteerit:
- Yli 37 viikkoa ja alle 42 raskausviikkoa kärjessä
- Ei hypertensiivinen tai kuumeinen (kaksi verenpainetta 140/90 neljän tunnin välein; kaksi kuumetta yli 100,4 tunnin välein)
- Luokan 1 sikiön sydämen äänet (saatu 20 minuutin sisäänpääsyn ulkoisesta sikiön monitoriliuskasta)
- Lapsivesipussi voi olla ehjä tai repeytynyt. Jos lapsivesi on repeytynyt, sen on oltava kirkasta.
Poissulkemiskriteerit:
Naiset suljetaan pois tutkimuksesta, jos he eivät täytä yllä olevia osallistumiskriteerejä tai heidät suljetaan edelleen pois seuraavissa olosuhteissa:
- Tunnettu keisarinleikkauksen tarve
- Osallistuja voidaan sulkea pois tutkimuksesta milloin tahansa synnytyksenhoitajan harkinnan mukaan (tutkimuksen poissulkemisen syy dokumentoidaan, mutta hän pysyy aiemmin hoitoaikeen perusteella valittuun tutkimusryhmään).

Veteen synnyttävät naiset synnyttävät veteen.

Median Time of Labor Duration

|
The median time of labor duration (1st stage onset of strong regular contractions resulting in cervical change, 2nd stage pushing and birth of the neonate, 3rd stage delivery of the placenta) of women in the waterbirth cohort will be compared to the land birth cohort.

United States Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (US-BSS-R) Score
Aikaikkuna: Up to 72 hours post delivery
|
The US-BSS-R is a 10 question scale using a 5 point Likert scale with answers ranging from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree".
The overall US-BSS-R total birth satisfaction score ranging from 0-40 (least birth satisfaction - most birth satisfaction).
Women in the waterbirth cohort will be compared to those in the land birth cohort for overall US-BSS-R score.
