Détermination des niveaux de [D10] phénanthrène tétraol dans l'urine des fumeurs

Quarante fumeurs et non-fumeurs apparemment en bonne santé (20 hommes, 20 femmes) seront recrutés par voie d'annonces dans la région des Twin Cities. Cela sera fait par le Centre de recherche sur l'usage du tabac. Ils seront présélectionnés lors d'un appel téléphonique, puis invités à participer à une séance d'orientation au cours de laquelle leur consentement sera obtenu. Les fumeuses enceintes seront exclues. Ils visiteront la clinique chaque semaine pendant 2 mois et une fois par mois pendant 4 mois pour un total de 6 mois de participation.
A chaque visite, ils boiront 5 ml d'éthanol à 50:50 contenant 10 ug de [D10]phénanthrène. Ils recueilleront ensuite leur urine de 24h et la rapporteront à la clinique. L'urine sera analysée pour le [D10]phénanthrène tétraol. Le but de l'étude est de déterminer la stabilité longitudinale de la quantité de [D10]phénanthrène-tétrol dans l'urine.

Critère d'intégration:
- fumeurs et non-fumeurs
- avoir fumé au moins 10 cigarettes par jour au cours de la dernière année (pour les fumeurs)
- en bonne santé physique (pas de condition médicale instable)
- stable et en bonne santé mentale (pas actuellement, au cours des 6 derniers mois, un diagnostic psychiatrique instable ou non traité, y compris la toxicomanie, tel que déterminé par les critères du DSM-IV).
Critère d'exclusion:
- les sujets qui ont, au cours des 6 derniers mois, subi des diagnostics psychiatriques instables ou non traités, y compris la toxicomanie, tels que déterminés par les critères du DSM-IV.
- sujets utilisant tout autre produit du tabac ou de la nicotine.
- sujets féminins enceintes ou qui allaitent.
- sujets ayant une condition médicale instable.
