Szczegółowy opis
Ogólnym celem tego badania jest przeprowadzenie podłużnego badania obserwacyjnego w celu zbadania związku wczesnego OPC z początkiem i ciężkością S-ECC, aby lepiej zrozumieć rolę Candida (szczególnie C. albicans) w ciężkiej próchnicy dziecięcej. Badacze przetestują hipotezę, że OPC wiąże się z S-ECC, modyfikując mikroflorę płytki nazębnej i wzmacniając wirulencję w sposób sprzyjający wczesnemu rozwojowi choroby.
Do tego badania zostanie włączonych łącznie 60 niemowląt (w wieku od 6 do 15 miesięcy) z lub bez OPC w pierwszym roku życia, w oparciu o kryteria włączenia i wyłączenia. Pacjenci zostaną poddani przeglądowi historii medycznej/stomatologicznej na podstawie dokumentacji medycznej. Podczas każdej wizyty w ramach badania (kontrola wyjściowa, 6-miesięczna, 12-miesięczna, 18-miesięczna i 24-miesięczna) wykalibrowany ewaluator przeprowadzi badanie jamy ustnej, w tym badanie tkanek miękkich i próchnicy. Próbki płytki nazębnej/wymazu z jamy ustnej będą pobierane podczas każdej wizyty badawczej. Ponadto zostanie zebrana obszerna ankieta obejmująca status demograficzny, higienę jamy ustnej, dietę, poród i sposób karmienia, a także aktualne stosowanie leków.

Kryteria przyjęcia:
- Osobniki płci męskiej lub żeńskiej w wieku 6-15 miesięcy
- Musi mieć co najmniej jeden w pełni wyrznięty ząb podczas wizyty wyjściowej
- Rodzic/opiekun chętny i zdolny do wyrażenia świadomej zgody
- Z historią OPC lub bez (zespół badawczy zarejestruje 30 uczestników z historią OPC i 30 uczestników bez historii OPC)
Kryteria wyłączenia:
- Obecność ogólnoustrojowego stanu medycznego (np. zespół Downa itp.)
- Obecność deformacji ustno-twarzowej
- Obecność próchnicy
- Stosowanie ogólnoustrojowej terapii przeciwbakteryjnej w ciągu 30 dni od wizyty wyjściowej
- Występowanie jakichkolwiek warunków, które zdaniem badacza powodują, że udział w projekcie nie leży w najlepszym interesie jednostki.
