Detailed Description

This study aims to validate the effectiveness of a virtual simulation training system for emergency response to bioterrorism incidents in enhancing the biosafety response capabilities of clinical nursing staff. An asynchronous controlled trial was conducted, utilizing two consecutive training sessions for clinical nursing staff at a university; participants in the first session were assigned to the control group, while those in the second session were assigned to the intervention group. The control group received traditional in-person training (combining theoretical instruction with practical exercises), while the intervention group underwent training that combined theoretical instruction with the virtual simulation training platform developed for this study. The intervention duration was 4 weeks for both groups, and assessments were conducted before and after the intervention using the Clinical Nurse Biosafety Response Scale.

Arms and Interventions

Participant Group / Arm
Intervention / Treatment
Placebo Comparator: Conventional face-to-face training on emergency response to bioterrorist attacks

The control group received **conventional face-to-face training on emergency response to bioterrorist attacks**, including theoretical lectures and practical drills.

This study focused on a training program for school nursing staff, with participants from the first cohort serving as the control group and those from the second cohort as the intervention group. A non-concurrent controlled experiment was conducted: the control group received traditional in-person training consisting of theoretical instruction and practical exercises, while the intervention group received training that combined theoretical instruction with a virtual simulation training platform developed for this study.

Active Comparator: Virtual simulation training for emergency response to bioterrorist attacks

The intervention group received theoretical lectures combined with **virtual simulation training for emergency response to bioterrorist attacks** developed in this study.

Primary Outcome Measures

Outcome Measure
Measure Description
Time Frame
Biosafety incident response competence
Time Frame: From enrollment to the completion of the four-week training.

The training effect among nurses was evaluated using the self-developed biosecurity incident response competence scale of our research group, which covers four dimensions: biosecurity incident monitoring and early-warning competence, nursing management competence for biosecurity incidents, biosecurity knowledge readiness, and biosecurity infection-protection competence.

From enrollment to the completion of the four-week training.
