Beschreibung
Einschlusskriterien:
- Krankenhausaufenthalt, erwachsener Patient, mindestens eine positive Blutkultur, die innerhalb von 24 Stunden nach der Aufnahme gemeldet wurde
Ausschlusskriterien:
- Zuvor in die Studie eingeschrieben; entlassen/verstorben vor erster positiver Kultur; Empfangen von Antibiotika für mehr als oder gleich 48 Stunden; Endokarditis oder Osteomyelitis; Antithymozytenglobulin in den letzten 12 Monaten; nur Blutkulturen, die für Koagulase-negative Staphylokokken positiv sind.

Um festzustellen, ob die Procalcitonin- und Endotoxinspiegel (oder das Ausbleiben einer Senkung) mit Behandlungsversagen, Komplikationen, Überleben, Kosten, Aufenthaltsdauer, Fortschreiten zu schwerer Sepsis oder Superinfektionen verbunden sind.
