偶発的な外傷は、米国における死因の第 4 位であり、複雑な炎症反応と関連しています。 この反応は、次のような心的外傷後合併症に関連しています。多臓器不全症候群 (MODS)、細菌性肺炎、急性呼吸窮迫症候群 (ARDS)、全身性炎症反応症候群 (SIRS)、および外傷後疼痛 (PTP)。 炎症性サイトカインの早期調節が、患者転帰の改善、麻薬必要量の減少、および退院後の患者の主観的疼痛の改善と関連しているかどうかは不明です。
