この研究の全体的な目標は、早期 OPC と S-ECC の発症および重症度との関連を調査する縦断的観察研究を実施して、重度の小児う蝕におけるカンジダ (特に C. albicans) の役割をよりよく理解することです。 研究者は、OPC が S-ECC と関連しているという仮説を検証するために、プラーク微生物叢を改変し、病気の早期発症を助長する方法で病原性を高めます。
この研究では、包含および除外基準に基づいて、生後1年でOPCの病歴の有無にかかわらず、合計60人の乳児(6〜15か月齢)が登録されます。 被験者は、医療記録から自分の病歴/歯の病歴を確認します。 各研究訪問(ベースライン、6か月、12か月、18か月、および24か月のフォローアップ)で、軟部組織および虫歯検査を含む口腔検査が、較正された評価者によって実行されます。 歯垢/口腔スワブサンプルは、各研究訪問時に収集されます。 さらに、人口統計学的状態、口腔衛生、食事、分娩、摂食方法、および現在の薬の使用状況を含む包括的な調査も収集されます。
