Niet-farmacologische, niet-chirurgische behandelingen voor toevallen en epilepsie worden steeds belangrijker, gezien de mogelijke bijwerkingen en het gebrek aan volledige controle van aanvallen met dergelijke behandelingen. Op basis van eerdere studies die een anticonvulsief en anti-epileptiform effect aantonen dat bij proefpersonen wordt bereikt door blootstelling aan muziek, wordt voorgesteld dat specifieke muzikale stimuli causaal kunnen resulteren in wijdverspreide corticale activering op een zodanige manier dat epileptische afwijkingen bij proefpersonen effectief worden voorkomen of beëindigd. met lichtgevoelige epilepsie. We zullen het effect van specifieke muzikale stimulatie (Mozart K448) onderzoeken om fotoparoxysmale afwijkingen bij proefpersonen te verminderen of te voorkomen.
De primaire uitkomst zal worden geëvalueerd in 3 groepen, waarbij de wijziging/stopzetting van fotisch-geïnduceerde afwijkingen wordt beoordeeld tijdens:
- Behandeling: muziek blootstelling aan Mozart K448, vs.
- Placebo: muzikale blootstelling aan Beethovens Für Elise voor piano, vs.
- Controle: geen blootstelling aan muziek.

Beschrijving
Inclusiecriteria:
- Leeftijd 5-17 jaar, inclusief
- Vrouw of man met klinische voorgeschiedenis van fotoparoxysmale epilepsie en ten minste één aanval, zoals gedefinieerd door de International League Against Epilepsy (International Classification of Epilepsies and Epileptic Syndromes; Commission on Classification and Terminology of the International League Against Epilepsy 1989)
- Abnormaal EEG consistent met kenmerken van fotoparoxismale epilepsie: occipitale epileptiforme afwijkingen met verder normaal interictaal EEG op de achtergrond;
- Op < of gelijk aan 2 anti-epileptica [bereik 0-2 AED's]
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Geschiedenis van een gegeneraliseerde convulsie veroorzaakt door fotische stimulatie;
- Onvermogen om het onderzoeksprotocol te voltooien en/of na te leven

De geregistreerde EEG-gegevens zullen worden geanalyseerd om significante causale reducties of preventie van fotoparoxismale reacties als gevolg van de auditieve stimulatie vast te stellen, samen met het bepalen van alle geïnduceerde patronen van corticale activering.
