血圧は、一般集団において連続的な単峰性分布を持っています。 レベルが 80 パーセンタイルを超えて上昇した個人は、心血管疾患の罹患率と死亡率の主な原因である高血圧に苦しんでいます。 高血圧患者の 95% 以上は他に原疾患がなく、本態性高血圧症と言われています。 家系と双子の研究は、遺伝的差異が血圧の個人差の大部分を占めることを示しています。 研究が始まった1984年には、本態性高血圧の有用なマーカーである、または個人間の血圧変動の生物学的基盤へのプローブとして機能する遺伝子座はまだ特定されていませんでした. 環境要因も血圧に影響します。特に塩化ナトリウムの食事摂取量の増加は血圧を上昇させ、一部の人々では本態性高血圧症の発症に寄与する可能性があります. 遺伝的に決定されたナトリウムイオンの代謝の変化は、通常の範囲の食事性ナトリウム摂取量にさらされると高血圧を発症する可能性が高い集団のサブセットで発生するという仮説が立てられました.

デザインの物語:
