WHOは、主に経口アジスロマイシンの大量配布によって、2020年までに失明するトラコーマを撲滅するプログラムを開始した。

調査の概要
詳細な説明
エチオピアのグラゲ地区にある40の村が、年2回の治療、年1回の治療、および単回の治療に無作為に割り当てられました。
各治療は、1 歳以上の全人口に対する経口アジスロマイシンの単回投与で構成されていました (研究が開始された時点では、アジスロマイシンは 1 歳未満の年齢に対してはまだ承認されていませんでした)。
トラコーマの原因となる眼クラミジアの有病率を、ベースライン時の1~5歳のピーク有病年齢と、治療後2、6、12、18、および24か月後に評価します。
研究の延長では、治療後30か月および36か月後の感染をモニタリングします。
同じ地域の未処理の村は、長期的な傾向の存在を評価するためにステップウェッジ設計に登録されます。
1~5歳の年齢層に含まれない人の無作為サンプルを検査して、地域社会全体の感染症の有病率を評価します。
