Studie van een voedingssupplement voor reflux tijdens de slaap (SXDSFRS)
Deze onderzoeksstudie is een gerandomiseerde, gecontroleerde studie die is ontwikkeld om te testen hoe goed een product voor een droge mond dat xylitol bevat, enkele symptomen van gastro-oesofageale refluxziekte (GERD. Personen die symptomen van gastro-oesofageale refluxziekte (GERD) ervaren en die worden toegelaten tot de studie, zullen worden gevraagd om te rapporteren over de frequentie en ernst van verschillende symptomen die specifiek zijn voor de aandoening die optreden tijdens de slaap. Het onderzoek bestaat uit twee fasen:
Fase één omvat het verzamelen van basisinformatie gedurende twee weken. Fase twee is de interventiefase van het onderzoek. In deze fase van het onderzoek wordt elke proefpersoon willekeurig toegewezen (zoals het opgooien van een munt) om gedurende twee weken ofwel "het product" van interesse of een ander product voor droge mond te gebruiken.

Gedetailleerde beschrijving
Het onderzoek bestaat uit twee fasen:
Fase één omvat het verzamelen van basisinformatie gedurende twee weken. Fase twee is de interventiefase van het onderzoek. In deze fase van het onderzoek wordt elke proefpersoon willekeurig toegewezen (zoals het opgooien van een munt) om gedurende twee weken ofwel "het product" van interesse of een ander product voor droge mond te gebruiken.
Fase 1
In deze eerste fase moet u de aan- of afwezigheid van verschillende symptomen die verband houden met GORZ die tijdens de slaap kunnen optreden, via e-mail aan de onderzoekscoördinator melden. Fase 1 duurt 14 dagen (en nachten). U wordt ook gevraagd om de relatieve ernst van sommige symptomen te beoordelen. De informatie die tijdens deze eerste fase van het onderzoek wordt verzameld, zal vervolgens worden gebruikt om basiswaarden vast te stellen voor de symptomen die van belang zijn en om te bepalen of u in aanmerking komt voor de interventiefase (fase 2) van het onderzoek.
Fase 2
In de tweede fase van het onderzoek krijgt u voldoende gel of voldoende schijfjes voor 14 dagen (de duur van de tweede fase van het onderzoek). Als u de gel krijgt, moet u vlak voor het slapen gaan een kleine hoeveelheid (aangegeven in de gebruiksaanwijzing) op het mondslijmvlies aanbrengen. Als u de schijven krijgt, wordt er elke avond vlak voor het slapengaan een op het tandvlees naast een kies in elke wang geplaatst (vermeld in de gebruiksaanwijzing). U wordt gevraagd om dagelijks e-mailcommunicatie met de onderzoekscoördinator te blijven verstrekken met details over de symptomen die wijzen op reflux die u de vorige nacht tijdens het gebruik van het product heeft ervaren, zoals u deed tijdens fase 1 van het onderzoek.
Tijdens fase 1 en 2 van het onderzoek wordt u gevraagd om door te gaan met het innemen van eerder voorgeschreven medicijnen of vrij verkrijgbare preparaten die u normaal gebruikt voor reflux en om uw normale voedingsgewoonten te behouden. U mag echter geen ander middel tegen een droge mond gebruiken dan de middelen die de onderzoekscoördinator vlak voor het slapengaan heeft verstrekt.

Beschrijving
Inclusiecriteria:
- Een medische diagnose van GORZ
- Wakker worden met de smaak van terugvloeiend maagzuur in de mond
- Maagzuur tijdens de slaap
- Stem heesheid bij het ontwaken
- Antacida 's nachts gebruiken
- Droge mond voor het slapen gaan of 's nachts
- Ervaar moeite met kauwen, slikken en spreken vanwege een droge mond
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Onder de 18
Voorgeschiedenis van een van deze aandoeningen:
- coronaire hartziekte
- Galblaas ziekte
- maag- of slokdarmkanker
- maagzweer ziekte
- oesofagitis, hetzij eosinofiel, infectieus of pilgebaseerd
- aandoeningen van de slokdarmmotiliteit
- Een geschiedenis van thoracale, slokdarm- of maagchirurgie
- Geen medische keuring in het voorgaande jaar

Actieve vergelijker: Interventie
In de tweede fase van het onderzoek krijgt elke proefpersoon een gel met xylitol of schijfjes met xylitol voor gebruik gedurende 14 dagen (de duur van de tweede fase van het onderzoek).
Als de gel wordt gegeven, moet een kleine hoeveelheid (aangegeven in de gebruiksaanwijzing) vlak voor het slapengaan op het mondslijmvlies worden aangebracht.
Als de schijven worden gegeven, wordt er elke avond vlak voor het slapengaan een op het tandvlees naast een kies in elke wang geplaatst (vermeld in de gebruiksaanwijzing).
Elke proefpersoon zal worden gevraagd om door te gaan met dagelijkse e-mailcommunicatie met de onderzoekscoördinator met gedetailleerde symptomen die wijzen op reflux die de vorige nacht tijdens het gebruik van het product is ervaren, zoals werd verstrekt tijdens fase 1 van het onderzoek.
