Beoordeling van een perifere endotheliale disfunctie bij COPD (chronische obstructieve longziekte)
Het doel van de studie is het beoordelen van de perifere endotheelfunctie bij volwassen COPD-patiënten (chronische obstructieve longziekte) en de relatie tussen de perifere endotheelfunctie en de longfunctie.

Het primaire criterium is de perifere endotheliale functie die zal worden beoordeeld door de meting van door stroming gemedieerde dilatatie (reactieve hyperemie-perifere arterietonusindex).
De longfunctie wordt beoordeeld aan de hand van de metingen van de FEV1 (geforceerd expiratoir volume in één seconde), de geforceerde vitale capaciteit (FVC) en de expiratoire flow tussen 25% en 75% (FEF25-75%).
De relatie tussen deze parameters van de longfunctie en de perifere endotheliale functie zal worden geanalyseerd.
Daarnaast een relatie tussen de perifere endotheelfunctie en de ernst van COPD (classificatie volgens GOLD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) 2010 en GOLD 2011 en de COPD-beoordelingstest, de cardiovasculaire risicofactoren (SCORE INdex) en de rokersstatus zal ook beoordeeld worden.

Deelname Criteria
Onderzoekers zoeken naar mensen die aan een bepaalde beschrijving voldoen, de zogenaamde geschiktheidscriteria. Enkele voorbeelden van deze criteria zijn iemands algemene gezondheidstoestand of eerdere behandelingen.

Inclusiecriteria:
- COPD: FEV1/FVC < 70%
- Rokers of ex-rokers (≥ 10 pakjaren)
- Geen COPD-exacerbatie in de afgelopen drie maanden
- Geen voorgeschiedenis van astma en geen luchtwegallergie
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Zwangere of zogende vrouwen
- Behandeling met pulmonale vasodilatatoren
- Patiënten met een significante acute ziekte. Een significante ziekte wordt gedefinieerd als een ziekte die, naar de mening van de onderzoeker, de resultaten van het onderzoek kan beïnvloeden.
