Het Electronic Medical Records and GEnomics (eMERGE) Network Genomic Risk Assessment (eMERGE)

Het eMERGE-netwerk grijpt de mogelijkheid aan om nieuwe methoden in de genomische geneeskunde, informatiewetenschap en betrokkenheid van onderzoeksdeelnemers te gebruiken om mensen met een zeer hoog risico op specifieke ziekten te identificeren en geïndividualiseerde benaderingen voor preventie en zorg aan te bevelen.
De onderzoekers zullen een prospectieve studie uitvoeren, met diverse en achtergestelde deelnemers, op tien eMERGE-studielocaties om de klinische implementatie te evalueren van een Genome Informed Risk Assessment (GIRA)-tool die genetische, familiegeschiedenis en klinische risico-informatie van deelnemers combineert.

Het doel van de studie is om te bepalen of het verstrekken van een Genome Informed Risk Assessment (GIRA) van invloed zal zijn op klinische acties die door zorgverleners en patiënten worden ondernomen om het ziekterisico te beheersen en de neiging van deelnemers om een ziekte te ontwikkelen die in de GIRA wordt gerapporteerd.
Nieuwe hulpmiddelen in de genomische geneeskunde - polygene risicoscores, monogene genetische screeningtests, platforms om familiegeschiedenis vast te leggen en geavanceerde elektronische fenotypering - bieden het vooruitzicht van vroege identificatie van mensen met een bijzonder hoog risico op veel voorkomende ziekten.
De onderzoekers ontwikkelden methoden om geïntegreerde genomische risicobeoordelingen te genereren voor tien aandoeningen; een plan om ongeveer 25.000 proefpersonen aan te trekken, te werven en te behouden om deze beoordelingen te ontvangen; en methoden om uitkomsten te bestuderen bij degenen die zijn aangemerkt als hoog risico en degenen die zijn aangemerkt als niet-hoog risico.
Door het begrip van nieuwe methoden voor het maken en leveren van geïntegreerde genomische risicobeoordelingen te vergroten, zal dit project preventie en vroege behandeling van mensen met een hoog risico op veel voorkomende ziekten mogelijk maken.
