Achtergrond: Adolescenten zijn vatbaar voor tuberculose. Jaarlijks worden bijna 1,1 miljoen kinderen (jonger dan 15 jaar) en nog eens een half miljoen oudere adolescenten (15-19 jaar) ziek met tuberculose. Ongeveer 5% tot 10% van de met tuberculose geïnfecteerde mensen ontwikkelen zich tot een actieve ziekte, wat erop wijst dat een groot deel van de adolescenten niet gediagnosticeerd en onbeschermd blijft. Niet-gediagnosticeerde gevallen en overdracht via scholen dragen bij aan de last van tuberculose onder adolescenten. Het dichten van de kloof in gerichte interventies voor de preventie van tuberculose op scholen is essentieel om de cyclus van overdracht te doorbreken en het welzijn van schoolgaande adolescenten te garanderen. Methode: Dit is een prospectief, multicenter, open-label, non-inferioriteit, clustergerandomiseerde, gecontroleerde klinische studie binnen het nationale tuberculosebestrijdingsprogramma van GuiZhou, China. Nauwe contacten van schooltuberculose-indexgevallen worden actief gescreend met QFT (QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus), röntgenfoto van de borstkas, gepoolde GeneXpert MTB/RIF-test van sputum en symptomen. Inclusiecriteria:

  1. Studenten van de middelbare school, middelbare school en universiteit, leeftijd 13 jaar oud
  2. Nauw contact met een geval van actieve tuberculose op school (bijvoorbeeld in hetzelfde klaslokaal, in dezelfde slaapzaal, op dezelfde verdieping)

The primary endpoint is a composite of bacteriologically confirmed or clinically diagnosed active TB within 24 months after randomization. Bacteriologically confirmed TB is defined as M. tuberculosis detection by sputum culture and/or molecular assay (e.g., GeneXpert MTB/RIF).
