SEPAGES-pari-lapsikohorttia koordinoi Insermin (Ranskan kansallinen terveys- ja lääketieteen tutkimuslaitos) ympäristöepidemiologian tiimi. SEPAGES-kohortti perustuu yleiseen väestöön, ja sen tavoitteena on kattaa useita ympäristöterveystutkimuksen osa-alueita, mukaan lukien hormonitoimintaa häiritsevät aineet ja ilmansaasteet.
Päätavoitteena on kvantifioida raskauden ja ensimmäisten elinvuosien aiheuttaman saastumisen vaikutus kolmeen pääasialliseen terveyteen: kasvuun, hengityselinten terveyteen ja hermoston kehitykseen; ja ymmärtää paremmin biologista mekanismia (kuten geneettinen analyysi, jolla tutkitaan ympäristötekijöiden roolia geenien ilmentymisessä sekä geneettisten tekijöiden roolia terveydessä). Tavoitteena on saada mukaan 500 perhettä.

SEPAGES on uudentyyppinen pitkittäinen pari-lapsi-kohortti, jossa on toistuvia kliinisiä tutkimuksia raskauden ja lapsuuden aikana, laaja toistuvien biologisten näytteiden kerääminen sekä vanhemmilta että lapselta, uusien tekniikoiden käyttö ilmansaasteille altistumisen arvioimiseksi (GPS, henkilökohtainen annosmittari jne.). ) Koko tutkimuksen ajan (raskauden ja lapsen ensimmäisten elinvuosien aikana) suoritetaan kliinistä tutkimusta ja monia biologisia testejä (virtsa, veri, hiukset). Altistuminen erilaisille ympäristötekijöille tapahtuu useita kertoja raskauden ja lapsen ensimmäisten elinvuosien aikana henkilökohtaisten annosmittareiden, GPS:n ja kiihtyvyysmittareiden ansiosta. Synnytyksen ja synnytyksen aikana otetaan useita näytteitä (istukka, kudokset, veri, virtsa, hiukset, mekonium ja rintamaito). Lopuksi tutkimuksen aikana vapaaehtoisille annetaan joukko arviointilomakkeita tietokonealustan kautta, jotta he ymmärtäisivät paremmin heidän asuinympäristönsä.
SEPAGES-kohortti noudattaa biolääketieteellisen tutkimuksen sääntöä. Sekä isä että äiti allekirjoittavat tietoisen suostumuksen sairaalassa tapahtuvan inkluusiokäynnin aikana. Kaikki eettiset ja tietosuojasopimukset oli saatu: Comité de Protection des Personnes (CPP) antoivat myönteisen lausunnon 13. marraskuuta 201 ja CCTIRS (Comité Consultatif sur le Traitement de l'Information en matière de Recherche dans le domaine de la Santé) 9. tammikuuta 2014. Tutkimuksen hyväksyi Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament (ANSM) 17. joulukuuta 2013 ja Comité Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) 26. kesäkuuta 2014.
