人々の推論は直観によって偏り、論理的規範から逸脱する可能性があることは、数十年にわたる研究によって長い間証明されてきました。 思考を直観的思考プロセスと意図的思考プロセスの間の相互作用として特徴付ける一般的な二重プロセス モデルは、この観察に対して魅力的な説明を提示しています。 この説明の中で、論理的推論は伝統的に、努力を要する慎重な思考を必要とするタスクの典型的な例として考えられています。 しかし、近年、新しい行動パラダイムで得られた多くの発見は、従来の二重プロセスの特徴付けに疑問を投げかけています。 重要な観察は、人々は熟考することなく、古典的な推論タスクの論理原則を直観的に処理できるということです。
高速または直感的な論理の発見は、二重プロセス理論と人間の合理性についての私たちの見解に広範囲にわたる理論的意味をもたらします。 しかし、この新たに発見された高速論理的推論の性質は明らかではありません。 1 つの制限は、その神経基盤がまだ調査されていないことです。 このプロジェクトの主な目標は、機能的磁気共鳴画像法 (fMRI) 研究におけるこの欠点に対処することです。 この研究では、成人の参加者がスキャナーで古典的な推論問題 (つまり、バットとボールの問題の変形) を解きます。 トライアルの半分は、参加者が熟考する十分な時間 (つまり 20 秒) を得る従来の「スロー」トライアルになります。 残りの半分の試験は「高速」試験であり、人々は熟考するのに十分な時間が取れず(つまり、期限は 4 秒)、直感的な処理に頼る必要があります。
fMRI 研究の参加者は全員、18 ~ 45 歳の健康な成人です。 高速試行中と低速試行中の正解者の脳の活性化を対比することに加えて、正しい応答と不正確な応答の高速活性化と低速活性化も対比します。 これにより、正しい論理反応と誤った速い論理反応、および遅い論理反応の両方に関連する脳領域を特定し、研究の目的を達成することができます。

- MRI検査の標準禁忌(ペースメーカー、金属インプラント/歯科矯正器具、閉所恐怖症、妊娠)
- 慢性薬物またはアルコール使用者
- 心血管事故に関連する認知障害
- 慢性神経障害または精神障害
- 主要な病気の病歴(糖尿病、代謝性、癌、免疫学的)
- 脳画像化を妨げる可能性のある薬剤の使用(向精神薬、睡眠薬、抗不安薬、神経弛緩薬、抗パーキンソン病薬、ベンゾジアゼピン、ステロイド系抗炎症薬、抗てんかん薬、抗ヒスタミン薬、中枢性鎮痛薬、筋弛緩薬)
- 色覚異常
- 妊娠中の女性
