65歳以上の成人におけるクロストリディオイデス・ディフィシルワクチンの有効性、安全性、および耐容性を評価するための第3相、プラセボ対照、二重盲検、無作為化試験
本研究の目的は、クロストリジオイデス・ディフィシル（C. difficile）ワクチンが、65歳以上の成人におけるC. difficile感染症（pCDI）の症例数を減少させる効果、安全性、忍容性について調査することです。
参加者は、C. difficileワクチンまたはプラセボ（生理食塩水）のいずれかを受け取ります。プラセボには有効成分は含まれていません。ワクチンは上腕筋への注射として投与されます。
この研究では、C. difficile感染に関連する下痢（軟便）のイベント数を観察するため、研究期間は変動する可能性があります。これらのイベントが早く発生すれば研究は早期に終了する可能性があり、ゆっくり発生すれば長期間かかる場合があります。ワクチンが明らかに有効であるか、明らかに無効である場合、研究が早期に中止されることもあります。参加者は、主要な質問に答えるのに十分なイベントが発生するまで研究に参加します。平均して、各人は最長約3年半の間参加することが予定されています。
この期間中、参加者は計画された3回の臨床訪問と3回の電話訪問を行います。これらの訪問後、研究終了まで毎年、さらに計画された臨床訪問が実施されます。
計画された研究訪問に加えて、研究期間中に参加者が24時間以内に3回以上の軟便を経験した場合、次の便（4回目以降）を保存し、研究施設に連絡するよう求められます。研究施設は、それがC. difficile感染の可能性があるかどうかを確認します。この確認は、クリニックで行われるか、電話またはビデオ通話を通じて実施される場合があります。

• 最近または近い将来に医療機関との接触を予定している方、または最近抗生物質を服用した方。
研究に参加できない方（除外基準）：
- 以前にCDI（クロストリジオイデス・ディフィシル感染症）にかかったことがある方。
- 小腸または大腸の一部を切除する手術を受けたことがある方。
- 頻繁に下痢を起こす方（1日に3回以上の緩い便が月に1回以上あることを意味します）。
- すでにC. difficileに対するワクチンまたは特別な抗体治療を受けたことがある方。
- ワクチンまたは研究ワクチンのいずれかの成分に対して重いアレルギー反応を起こしたことがある方。
- 免疫系が弱いため（疾患または治療による）、ワクチンに十分に反応しない可能性がある方。
- 転移性がん、腎不全、またはその他の重篤な健康問題を抱えている方。
