Doelstellingen: Het hoofddoel van deze studie was het onderzoeken van de relatie tussen keramische beugels en de ontwikkeling van WSL in vergelijking met die geassocieerd met conventionele metalen beugels.
Onderzoeksopzet: gerandomiseerde klinische studie met 2 parallelle armen. Materialen en methoden: Kwantitatieve, door licht geïnduceerde fluorescentie (QLF)-beelden werden genomen voor de twee willekeurig toegewezen groepen (keramische groep, n=26; metaalgroep, n=25) van patiënten op T0: vóór aanvang van de behandeling; T1: na 2 maanden en T2: 4 maanden na behandeling). De QLF-beelden werden geanalyseerd; Primaire uitkomstmaten: Het laesiegebied (Pixels) en de gemiddelde hoeveelheid fluorescentieverlies (∆F)% en het aantal nieuw ontwikkelde laesies. Secundaire uitkomst: Maximaal fluorescentieverlies (∆F-Max)% en plaqueoppervlakte (∆R 30)%. Gemiddelden en standaarddeviaties voor alle gemeten parameters op T0, T1 en T2 werden berekend. Split plot variantieanalyse (SPANOVA) test werd gebruikt om de veranderingen binnen elke groep op de verschillende tijdsintervallen en tussen de twee groepen te bepalen. Chi-kwadraat werd gebruikt om het aantal nieuwe laesies tijdens de behandeling tussen de twee groepen te vergelijken. P-waarde was ingesteld op 0,05 niveau.

Beschrijving
Inclusiecriteria:
- Gezonde proefpersonen die orthodontische behandeling zoeken met lichte tot matige verdringing (niet meer dan 5 mm)
- Geen eerdere orthodontische behandeling
- Optimale mondhygiëne
- Maximaal 3 herstelde tanden
- Afwezigheid van gebrekkige glazuurvorming in de vorm van hypocalcificatie of hypoplasie.
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Proefpersonen met een slechte mondhygiëne
- Defect emaille
- Patiënten met syndromen en orofaciale anomalieën of speekselklieraandoeningen
