Inklusjonskriterier:
- Alder mellom 18 - 70 år
- Karnofsky-status ≥ 70 %
- Diagnose av multippelt myelom
- Innen 9 måneder etter starten av induksjonskjemoterapi og ingen tegn på tilbakefall eller progresjon.
- Tilgjengelighet av kryokonserverte perifere blodstamceller med en CD34-dose på minst 2x106/kg.
Ekskluderingskriterier:
- Dårlig hjertefunksjon: venstre ventrikkel ejeksjonsfraksjon <40 %
- Dårlig lungefunksjon: FEV1, FVC eller DLCO <40 % predikert
- Dårlig leverfunksjon: bilirubin >2,5 mg/dl (ikke på grunn av hemolyse, Gilberts eller primær malignitet), ASAT/ALT > 3X ULN
- Dårlig nyrefunksjon: Kreatinin >2,0 mg/dl eller kreatininclearance < 40 ml/min (beregnet kreatininclearance er tillatt)
- Pågående eller aktiv systemisk infeksjon, aktiv hepatitt B- eller C-virusinfeksjon eller kjent humant immunsviktvirus (HIV) positiv.
- Kvinner i fertil alder som for øyeblikket er gravide eller som ikke bruker tilstrekkelig prevensjon
- Pasienter som har en svekkende medisinsk eller psykiatrisk sykdom som vil forhindre at de gir informert samtykke eller får optimal behandling og oppfølging.

Ved bruk av IMWG-kriterier: PR (delvis respons) notert som >50 % reduksjon av serum M-protein og reduksjon i 24 timers urin M-protein med >90 % eller til <200 mg/24 timer; VgPR (svært god partiell respons) notert som serum og urin M-protein påviselig ved immunfiksering, men ikke ved elektroforese eller >90 % reduksjon i serum M-protein pluss urin M-proteinnivå <100 mg/24 timer; CR (fullstendig respons) notert som negativ immunfiksering på serum og urin og forsvinning av eventuelle bløtvevsplasmacytomer og <5 % plasmaceller i benmarg; sCR (stringent komplett respons) notert som CR definert ovenfor pluss normalt FLC-forhold og fravær av klonale celler i benmarg ved immunhistokjemi eller immunfluorescens.
