Inklusjonskriterier:

  • Deltakeren har dokumentert diagnose av MDS i henhold til Verdens helseorganisasjon (WHO) 2016 som oppfyller IPSS-R klassifiseringen av svært lav, lav eller middels risiko sykdom, (middels risiko på ≤ 3,5 IPSS-R score) bekreftet via benmargsaspirat og: i) < 5 % blaster i benmarg og < 1 % blaster i perifert blod.
  • Deltakeren har et baseline nivå av endogent serum erytropoietin (sEPO) på ≤ 500 U/L.
  • Deltakeren har symptomer på anemi: i) Deltakeren registrerer en alvorlighetsgrad på "moderat" eller høyere på minst 1 PGI-S-element av tretthet, svakhet, kortpustethet eller svimmelhet utført i løpet av screeningsperioden.
  • Deltakeren har en gjennomsnittlig baseline Hb-konsentrasjon før randomisering på ≤ 9,5 g/dL. Gjennomsnittlig Hb er definert som gjennomsnittet av alle sentrale/lokale/pretransfusjons tilgjengelige Hb-målinger i løpet av de 16 ukene før randomisering (med minimum 2 målinger med minst 1 ukes mellomrom). Kun Hb-nivåer > 21 dager etter en transfusjon er akseptable. Den siste målingen må være innen 35 dager etter randomisering.

Ekskluderingskriterier:

  • Deltaker med sekundær MDS (det vil si MDS som er kjent for å ha oppstått som følge av kjemisk skade eller behandling med kjemoterapi og/eller stråling for andre sykdommer).
  • Deltaker med kjent historie med diagnose av AML.
  • Deltaker med en historie med cerebrovaskulær ulykke (inkludert iskemisk, embolisk og hemoragisk cerebrovaskulær ulykke), forbigående iskemisk angrep, dyp venøs trombose (inkludert proksimal og distal), lunge- eller arteriell emboli, arteriell trombose eller annen venøs trombose innen tilfeldig 6 måneder før tilfeldig 6 måneder. .
  • Deltaker med en historie med ren rødcelleaplasi og/eller antistoff mot erytropoietin.
