MÅL: I. Jämför lokoregional kontroll, sjukdomsfri överlevnad och total överlevnad hos patienter med karcinom i prostata som anses ha hög risk för återfall och får långtidsadjuvant zoladex (ZDX) jämfört med ingen adjuvant behandling efter neoadjuvant ZDX/ flutamid och strålbehandling. II. Jämför sexuell funktion hos patienter som behandlats med dessa två kurer.
DISPLAY: Randomiserad studie. Arm I: Neoadjuvant antiandrogenterapi och frigörande faktor agonistterapi plus strålbehandling. Flutamid, FLUT, NSC-147834; och Zoladex, ZDX, NSC-606864; plus extern strålbestrålning med megaspänningsutrustning med energier på minst 4 MV (minst 6 MV föredras). Arm II: Neoadjuvant antiandrogenterapi och frigörande faktor agonistterapi plus strålbehandling följt av adjuvant frisättande faktor agonistterapi. FLUT; och ZDX; plus extern strålbestrålning med utrustning som i arm I; följt av ZDX.
PROJEKTERAD UPPLÄGGNING: 1 508 patienter kommer att samlas under 2 år.

SJUKDOMENS KARAKTERISTIKA: Histologiskt bekräftat, lokalt avancerat adenokarcinom i prostatan, inklusive: Skrymmande primära tumörer begränsade till prostata (kliniskt stadium T2c) Primära tumörer som sträcker sig utanför kapseln (kliniskt stadium T3-4) Inga vanliga höftbens- eller para-aorta-nodal involverade lymfkörtelpåverkan under den vanliga höftbensnivån tillåten Positiva noder i bildstudier måste biopsieras av FNA eller kirurgisk provtagning PSA högst 150 (obligatoriskt) Inga fjärrmetastaser
