La cavidad protésica de un veterano es personalizada; está diseñada para ajustarse a una sola persona y a nadie más.

Los cambios en el ajuste tras la provisión de una prótesis son más frecuentes que su ausencia. Los cambios relacionados con la masa corporal, la atrofia muscular o la condición física personal pueden ocurrir a lo largo de meses, mientras que los cambios debidos a la dieta o complicaciones diabéticas pueden ocurrir en cuestión de horas. Los investigadores reclutarán veteranos ambulatorios con amputaciones transtibiales unilaterales (n = 25) y les adaptarán una cavidad protésica ajustable.

Los participantes usarán una cavidad protésica ajustable instrumentada después de usar una cavidad protésica ajustable duplicada no instrumentada durante dos semanas. Se permitirá a los participantes caminar durante 5 a 10 minutos mientras el protésico de investigación verifica el ajuste y alineación de la prótesis del estudio.
