Gedetailleerde beschrijving
De database verzamelt observationele basisgegevens over zowel moeders als baby's, en de gebruikte therapieën en resultaten van de baby's. De verzamelde informatie is niet specifiek voor een ziekte of behandeling. De verzamelde gegevens omvatten informatie over:
- Demografie van moeder en kind
- Moeders gezondheid, arbeid en bevalling
- De gezondheid van het kind bij opname, procedures en interventies, en medische resultaten
Deze gegevens worden gebruikt om: ledencentra te voorzien van rapportage voor gebruik bij kwaliteitsverbetering; associaties onderzoeken tussen baselinekenmerken, behandelingen en uitkomsten; en volg trends in ziektegevallen en effectiviteit van therapieën.

Inclusiecriteria:
- Elke baby die levend wordt geboren en met een geboortegewicht van 401 tot 1500 gram of 22 weken 0 dagen en 29 weken 6 dagen zwangerschapsduur (inclusief) die binnen 28 dagen na het leven is geboren in of is opgenomen in een centrum dat lid is van het Vermont Oxford Network zonder eerst naar huis gegaan, ongeacht waar de baby wordt verzorgd
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Doodgeboren zuigelingen
- Zuigelingen werden naar huis ontslagen voordat ze werden opgenomen in een ledencentrum
- Zuigelingen opgenomen na 28 dagen

Tijdsspanne: tot 1 jaar

Gegevensitems omvatten kenmerken van het kind en de moeder, interventies in de verloskamer, ademhalingszorg en -resultaten, operaties, infecties, andere ernstige complicaties en de duur van het verblijf.
Tijdsbestekken voor het verzamelen van gegevens omvatten: kenmerken van geboorte; op dag 28; en bij ontslag.
Het volgen eindigt bij ontslag naar huis (ook voor overgeplaatste baby's) of na één jaar.
