Inclusiecriteria:

  • Man en vrouw ≥40 jaar
  • Acute ischemische beroerte of voorbijgaande ischemische aanval
  • Intracraniale of extracraniale atherosclerotische plaque proximaal van het aangetaste hersengebied

Uitsluitingscriteria:

  • Voorspeld onvermogen om onderzoeksmedicatie door te slikken
  • Elke aandoening die, naar de mening van de onderzoeker, antistollingstherapie gecontra-indiceerd is of een onaanvaardbaar risico op bloedingen zou hebben
  • Gebruik van trombolytische therapie of mechanische trombectomie voor de behandeling van indexberoerte

National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

De NIHSS is een neurologische onderzoeksschaal met 11 items die wordt gebruikt om het effect van een acuut herseninfarct op de niveaus van bewustzijn, taal, verwaarlozing, gezichtsveldverlies, extraoculaire beweging, motorische kracht, ataxie, dysartrie en sensorisch verlies te evalueren. Een getrainde waarnemer beoordeelt het vermogen van het octrooi om vragen te beantwoorden en activiteiten uit te voeren. De score voor elke vaardigheid is een getal tussen 0 en 4, waarbij 0 normaal functioneren is en 4 volledig beperkt is. 0 = helemaal geen symptomen

  1. = Geen significante handicap ondanks symptomen; in staat om alle gebruikelijke taken en werkzaamheden uit te voeren
  2. = Lichte handicap; niet in staat om alle voorgaande activiteiten uit te voeren, maar wel in staat om zonder hulp de eigen zaken te behartigen
  3. = Matige handicap; enige hulp nodig hebben, maar in staat zijn om zonder hulp te lopen
  4. = Matig ernstige handicap; niet in staat om zonder hulp te lopen en aan lichamelijke behoeften te voldoen
  5. = Ernstige handicap; bedlegerig, incontinent en constante verpleegkundige zorg en aandacht nodig

De Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is een enquête met een opgetelde score. De MoCA-score varieert van een laagste score van 0 tot een hoogste score van 30. Een score van:

  • 18-25 punten: milde cognitieve stoornissen
  • 10-17 punten: matige cognitieve stoornissen
  • minder dan 10 punten: ernstige cognitieve stoornissen
