Pilotstudie Milieugezondheidseducatie en -monitoring gericht op Minderheden (MEET)
Het doel van deze studie is om educatief materiaal met betrekking tot EDC-blootstellingen te identificeren dat cultureel geschikt is voor de zwarte gemeenschap en de bruikbaarheid van het materiaal te testen. De belangrijkste vragen die deze studie wil beantwoorden zijn:
- problematische leefstijlgedragingen en producten in een minderheidsbevolking identificeren die kunnen bijdragen aan schadelijke blootstellingen en vervolgens de meest effectieve en duurzame leefstijlaanbevelingen bepalen om blootstellingen te verminderen;
- cultureel passend educatief EDC EHL-materiaal ontwikkelen door samen te werken met gemeenschapsgroepen en aan te passen vanuit Million Marker's bestaande uitgebreide online educatieve bronnen en aanbevelingen;
- ontwikkeld educatief materiaal en gerichte aanbevelingen integreren in het bestaande Million Marker-platform en de bruikbaarheid van het materiaal testen met een cohort van 100 leden van de zwarte gemeenschap.

Integreer en test de bruikbaarheid van MEET. Gebruik het ontwerpiteratieproces om de ontwikkelde educatieve materialen en gerichte aanbevelingen te integreren in het bestaande Million Marker-platform en test de bruikbaarheid van het materiaal met behulp van een cohort van 100 leden van de zwarte gemeenschap.
Het educatieve materiaal en de aanbevelingen die voor dit project zijn ontwikkeld, worden toegevoegd aan het huidige Million Marker-educatieplatform. Dit bijgewerkte platform, MEET, zal cultureel gevoelige feedback incorporeren voor een Afro-Amerikaanse populatie. MEET zal gebruikmaken van een gebruiksvriendelijke interface en meerdere opties voor betrokkenheid en integratie van wetenschapsvertaling/educatie.
De onderzoekers zullen inclusiecriteria gebruiken om aanvullende studieparticipanten te werven die: a) 18 jaar of ouder zijn; b) geschreven en gesproken Engels kunnen begrijpen; c) een smartphone bezitten; en d) bereid zijn om alle studiebeoordelingen te voltooien. De werving zal worden ondersteund door de gemeenschapsadviesraad van BCI. Opnieuw zullen onderzoekers het bestaande netwerk van BCI, mailinglijsten en sociale media-promotie gebruiken om potentiële deelnemers te werven. De onderzoekers verwachten ongeveer 50% vrouwen en 100% Afro-Amerikanen in te schrijven.
De haalbaarheids- en bruikbaarheidstest wordt virtueel uitgevoerd. Geworven en geïnformeerde gemeenschapsleden (n=100) zullen het platform gedurende 4 weken gebruiken. Voor- en nametingen worden afgenomen aan het begin en na 4 weken. De vragenlijsten zullen milieugezondheid en internetvaardigheid, gebruik van gezondheidsapps, bereidheid tot verandering en waargenomen identiteit, productgebruik en risico op borstkanker behandelen. De resultaten van de vragenlijsten zullen hiaten in gebruikersperceptie en bewustzijn identificeren om onze educatie- en marketingstrategieën te informeren. De onderzoekers veronderstellen dat de milieugezondheidsvaardigheid, houdingen, kennis en gedrag van de deelnemers zullen veranderen na het gebruik van MEET en het ontvangen van hun gepersonaliseerde aanbevelingen. De veranderingen in het gedrag van de deelnemers worden vergeleken en beoordeeld door de veranderingen in leefstijlgedrag en productgebruik te onderzoeken, die worden vastgelegd via de blootstellingsdagboeken van de deelnemers. De onderzoekers verwachten een vermindering in het gebruik van EDC-bevattende producten, het aanraken van bonnetjes, minder plastic gebruik, enz. Deelnemers zullen ook een aangepaste System Usability Score (SUS)79 invullen om de gebruikersperceptie van de bruikbaarheid van het platform te beoordelen. De onderzoekers verwachten hoge SUS-scores te behalen en zullen eventuele tekortkomingen aanpakken op basis van SUS-resultaten en gebruikersfeedback. Follow-up vragenlijsten worden vergeleken om trends in de tijd te beoordelen en gebruikersfeedback en gedrag in het platform te integreren. De verzamelde informatie zal ook onze fase II-subsidie en toekomstige onderzoeksstudies informeren.
De onderzoekers zullen veranderingen in de milieugezondheidsvaardigheid, houdingen, kennis en gedrag van de deelnemers na het gebruik van MEET beoordelen. Samenvattende statistieken worden gegenereerd op basis van de reacties van de deelnemers. Veranderingen worden berekend op basis van gepaarde waarden van individuele reacties. De onderzoekers analyseren procentuele veranderingen per individuele reactie en per reactiecategorie (houding, kennis en gedrag). Een Chi-kwadraat goodness-of-fit test wordt gebruikt voor voor-na vergelijkingen. Voor voor-na categorievergelijkingen binnen individuele deelnemers wordt de Wilcoxon rangsumtest gebruikt om de verschillen te vergelijken.
De verwachte steekproefgrootte van 100 zal voldoende power bieden om een verschil in gedrag en houdingen van deelnemers op baseline (voor gebruik van MEET) en na gebruik van MEET te detecteren.
