L'uso della crioterapia per prevenire la neuropatia periferica indotta da paclitaxel e i cambiamenti delle unghie nelle donne con cancro al seno

Le donne con cancro al seno che ricevono paclitaxel completeranno il Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), Neuropathic Pain Syndrome Inventory (NPSI) mentre un membro del team di ricerca condurrà una valutazione delle loro unghie. Una volta completata, la crioterapia verrà somministrata 15 minuti prima dell'infusione di paclitaxel, continuamente durante e quindi 15 minuti dopo il completamento del paclitaxel per un totale di 90 minuti. La ciroterapia verrà erogata utilizzando guanti Elasto-gel e pantofole a sollievo rapido. Questi articoli verranno cambiati 45 minuti dopo l'inizio per garantire la freddezza.
Ci saranno due rami dello studio. Un braccio includerà soggetti che indosseranno una pantofola/un guanto sul piede/mano mentre l'altro piede/mano servirà da controllo. L'altro braccio includerà soggetti che avranno la crioterapia sia alle mani che ai piedi. . Questo processo sarà ripetuto per un totale di 12 volte insieme a 12 dosi di paclitaxel. Al punto 13, durante una visita di routine dal loro oncologo, le unghie dei soggetti saranno rivalutate insieme al completamento del BPI e NPSIA totale di 25 soggetti saranno arruolati in ciascun braccio.

Descrizione
Criterio di inclusione:
- Donne dai 18 anni in su
- Diagnosi istologicamente confermata di cancro al seno
- Ricezione di antracicline dose-dense (AC) neo-adiuvanti o adiuvanti più chemioterapia a base di taxani o paclitaxel in combinazione con trastuzumab e pertuzumab
Criteri di esclusione:
- Precedente terapia con taxani
- Precedente terapia con oxaliplatino
- Non di lingua inglese
- Storia di neuropatia periferica, cioè malattia di Buerger
- Storia del diabete mellito
- Neuropatia periferica preesistente da altre condizioni, ad esempio malattia di Raynaud, Guillain-Barre, sindrome di Miller Fisher
- Malattie di mani, unghie o piedi, ad esempio sindrome mano/piede, artrite, dito a martello, tunnel carpale, borsiti, deformità
- Abuso di alcol (storia/attuale)
- Uso corrente di farmaci di oppioidi, antidepressivi, anticonvulsivanti, glutammina, vitamina B12
