O uso da crioterapia para prevenir neuropatia periférica induzida por paclitaxel e alterações nas unhas em mulheres com câncer de mama

Mulheres com câncer de mama recebendo paclitaxel preencherão o Inventário Breve de Dor (BPI), Inventário de Síndrome de Dor Neuropática (NPSI) enquanto um membro da equipe de pesquisa conduzirá uma avaliação de suas unhas. Uma vez concluída, a crioterapia será administrada 15 minutos antes da infusão de paclitaxel, continuamente durante e 15 minutos após a conclusão do paclitaxel por um total de 90 minutos. A ciroterapia será realizada usando luvas Elasto-gel e chinelos de alívio rápido. Esses itens serão trocados 45min após o início para garantir a frieza.
Haverá dois braços do estudo. Um braço incluirá sujeitos que usarão um chinelo/uma luva no pé/mão, enquanto o outro pé/mão servirá como controle. O outro braço incluirá indivíduos que farão crioterapia nas mãos e nos pés. . Este processo será repetido num total de 12 vezes em conjunto com 12 doses de paclitaxel. No ponto de tempo 13, durante uma visita de rotina ao seu oncologista, as unhas dos sujeitos serão reavaliadas juntamente com a conclusão do BPI e NPSIA. Um total de 25 sujeitos serão inscritos em cada braço.

Critério de inclusão:
- Mulheres com 18 anos ou mais
- Diagnóstico confirmado histologicamente de câncer de mama
- Recebendo antraciclina (AC) neoadjuvante ou adjuvante em dose densa mais quimioterapia à base de taxano ou paclitaxel em combinação com trastuzumabe e pertuzumabe
Critério de exclusão:
- Terapia prévia com taxano
- Terapia prévia com oxaliplatina
- não fala inglês
- História de neuropatia periférica, ou seja, doença de Buerger
- Histórico de diabetes melito
- Neuropatia periférica pré-existente de outras condições, por exemplo, doença de Raynaud, Guillain-Barre, Síndrome de Miller Fisher
- Problemas nas mãos, unhas ou pés, por exemplo, síndrome da mão/pé, artrite, dedo do pé em martelo, túnel do carpo, joanetes, deformidades
- Abuso de álcool (histórico/atual)
- Uso atual de medicação de opioides, antidepressivos, anticonvulsivantes, glutaminas, vitamina B12
