Le prese protesiche che consentono la mobilità ambulatoriale dei Veterani con amputazione dell'arto inferiore sono tipicamente elementi strutturali rigidi, eccessivamente robusti e di forma fissa che fungono da interfaccia tra il corpo e l'ambiente.
La presa protesica di un Veterano è su misura; è destinata a calzare una sola persona e nessun'altra.

Le variazioni di adattamento dopo la fornitura di una protesi sono più comuni che rare.
I cambiamenti legati alla massa corporea, all'atrofia muscolare o alla forma fisica personale possono avvenire nel corso di mesi, mentre quelli dovuti alla dieta o alle complicanze diabetiche possono verificarsi nell'arco di ore.
Se la discrepanza di forma tra l'arto residuo e la presa è piccola, il Veterano può gestire la differenza indossando o togliendo calze per l'arto residuo.
L'approccio non è ideale in quanto alcuni pazienti sono più inclini ad adottare questa pratica rispetto ad altri.
Se la discrepanza di forma è grande, di solito è necessaria una nuova presa protesica.

Lo scopo di questa ricerca è scoprire come i Veterani utilizzano le prese protesiche regolabili misurando la pressione applicata all'arto residuo da una presa protesica regolabile durante attività di varia intensità e identificare quali attività potrebbero indurre una regolazione.
I ricercatori recluteranno Veterani ambulatoriali con amputazioni transtibiali unilaterali (n = 25) e li doteranno di una presa protesica regolabile.

I partecipanti indosseranno una presa protesica regolabile strumentata dopo aver indossato un duplicato non strumentato di presa protesica regolabile per due settimane.
Ai partecipanti sarà consentito camminare per 5-10 minuti mentre il protesista della ricerca controlla l'adattamento e l'allineamento della protesi dello studio.
Le misurazioni della pressione verranno quindi raccolte mentre si è seduti, in piedi e camminando.
Le attività in piedi e camminando saranno eseguite in ordine casuale, intervallate da pause da seduti di 1 minuto durante le quali il partecipante rilascerà la pressione del pannello regolabile.

  • Veterani con amputazione dell'arto inferiore
  • avere un'amputazione transtibiale unilaterale
  • indossare una protesi per almeno 4 ore al giorno secondo autodichiarazione
  • almeno un anno dopo l'amputazione
  • avere una protesi modulare che includa un attacco a presa a quattro bulloni
  • essere in grado di camminare su un tapis roulant

Criteri di esclusione:

I partecipanti indosseranno una presa protesica regolabile.
I ricercatori realizzeranno e assembleranno una presa protesica regolabile per ogni partecipante, la cui forma è una copia della loro attuale presa protesica prescritta.
