Specifieke doelen zijn:
Doel 1: Het identificeren van genetische varianten in geselecteerde synaptische genen, door gerichte sequencing met een diepe dekking van coderende regio's en een sterke focus op voorheen niet-geteste regulerende regio's bij autismespectrumstoornis
Doel 2: Het definiëren van de reeks klinische fenotypes die worden veroorzaakt door mutaties in synaptische genen door gedetailleerde genotype/fenotype-correlaties vast te stellen en segregatie te analyseren in families met meerdere personen die getroffen zijn door autismespectrumstoornis, kenmerken van autismespectrumstoornis of andere neuropsychiatrische stoornissen
Doel 3: Het genereren van een opslagplaats van geïnduceerde pluripotente stamcellen van proefpersonen met autismespectrumstoornis met synaptische mutaties voor translationeel onderzoek, inclusief expressie- en functionele assays.
Doel 4: De neuronale fenotypes identificeren die worden veroorzaakt door schadelijke synaptische mutaties voor verder translationeel onderzoek

Inclusiecriteria:
- Diagnose van autismespectrumstoornissen of autisme met behulp van de Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R)-criteria voor autisme en Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-G)-criteria
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Patiënten met een ernstige verstandelijke beperking of met een bekende medische oorzaak van autisme, zoals neurocutane syndromen, Fragile X, metabole stoornissen, extreme vroeggeboorte, congenitale rubella en andere prenatale of postnatale neurologische infecties of grove dysmorfologie, worden uitgesloten

Autisme Spectrum Stoornis
Voor alle patiënten die in het onderzoek zijn opgenomen, bestaat de kernbeoordeling uitgevoerd door een van beide samenwerkende partners uit diagnose met behulp van de Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) criteria voor autisme en Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-G) criteria voor autisme of Autism Spectrum aandoeningen.
Patiënten met een ernstige verstandelijke beperking of met een bekende medische oorzaak van autisme, zoals neurocutane syndromen, Fragile X, metabole stoornissen, extreme vroeggeboorte, congenitale rubella en andere prenatale of postnatale neurologische infecties of grove dysmorfologie, worden uitgesloten.
