O estudo BCPP foi concebido para testar a hipótese de que a implementação de um pacote melhorado de prevenção combinada, que inclui o fornecimento de TARV a todos os participantes, independentemente da contagem de CD4 ou da gravidade da doença pelo HIV, terá impacto na epidemia de HIV/AIDS ao reduzir significativamente o HIV cumulativo em nível populacional incidência em uma área geográfica definida durante um período de 3 anos e será custo-efetiva.

Critério de inclusão:
- Protocolo nº 1 - Pesquisa domiciliar de linha de base (BHS): Comunidade de estudo permanente ou de meio período residente em qualquer uma das 30 comunidades de estudo; Cidadão do Botswana ou cônjuge de um cidadão do Botswana; capaz de fornecer consentimento informado se ≥18 anos de idade, ou capaz de fornecer consentimento para complementar a permissão de um tutor, se menor (16 ou 17 anos).
- Protocolo nº 3 - Coorte de tratamento expandido: pessoas infectadas pelo HIV em comunidades de Prevenção Combinada que ainda não estão em TARV e são capazes de fornecer consentimento informado se ≥18 anos de idade, ou capazes de fornecer consentimento para complementar a permissão de um tutor, se menor de idade ( 16 ou 17 anos).

As comunidades de cuidados aprimorados receberão orientação e suporte técnico aprimorado para gerenciamento de qualidade e sistemas de dados em todas as clínicas locais nas quais os indivíduos recebem cuidados e tratamento de HIV.

2. Aceitação em nível populacional de testes e aconselhamento de HIV (HTC), TARV, supressão de LV, circuncisão masculina (MC) e serviços de PMTCT

A aceitação de cada intervenção no nível da população será medida em uma pesquisa anual da amostra de 20% de domicílios elegíveis nas 30 comunidades de estudo e por meio da análise dos dados de monitoramento do programa de rotina.
