Detaillierte Beschreibung
Die Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) liefert wichtige Informationen über die sich verändernde Natur des HIV-vermittelten Krankheitsverlaufs, die Auswirkungen der antiretroviralen Behandlung, die Natur der HIV-Pathogenese sowie virale und genetische Faktoren des Wirts. Diese Studie wird auch die langfristigen Muster der Therapienutzung und des Risikoverhaltens bewerten.
Die Patienten erhalten alle 6 Monate Studienbesuche. Die Besuche umfassen Interviews, Probenentnahme und eine körperliche Untersuchung.

Beschreibung
Einschlusskriterien:
- HIV-negativ oder
- HIV-positiv und keine Vorgeschichte oder aktuelle Anwendung einer hochaktiven antiretroviralen Therapie (HAART) oder
- HIV-positiver HAART-Empfänger mit Dokumentation der HAART-Einleitung, keiner AIDS-Diagnose vor der HAART-Einleitung und einer CD4-Zellzahl- und HIV-1-RNA-Messung innerhalb von 6 Monaten vor der ersten HAART-Anwendung.
- Geschlechtsverkehr mit Männern oder mindestens 5 männlichen oder weiblichen Partnern in den 5 Jahren vor der Einschreibung.
Ausschlusskriterien:
- Konsum von Injektionsdrogen innerhalb eines Jahres nach der Einschreibung.
- Perinatal erworbene HIV-Infektion.
