El objetivo principal de este estudio es determinar si la suplementación oral de Citrulina, cuando se combina con HIIT, puede producir cambios significativos en la composición corporal, la calidad muscular, el metabolismo muscular y la capacidad funcional en hombres y mujeres mayores obesos.
Los investigadores plantean la hipótesis de que la citrulina combinada con HIIT será más beneficiosa que la HIIT sola, que será más beneficiosa que la citrulina sola, que será más beneficiosa que el placebo solo en hombres y mujeres mayores obesos.

Descripción detallada
La citrulina es un aminoácido no proteico, aislado de la sandía, implicado en el ciclo de la urea y precursor de la arginina. Los participantes tomarán 10 g/día de citrulina o placebo (isocalórico).
El entrenamiento de intervalos de alta intensidad (HIIT) es un entrenamiento aeróbico de alta intensidad (30 segundos al 85 % o más de la FCmáx + 1 min30 al 65-70 % de la FCmáx). La duración del HIIT es de 30 min/sesión. HIIT es reconocido como beneficioso para mejorar la salud en humanos, como Vo2max, grasa corporal o .
Luego se seguirá la intervención durante 12 semanas consecutivas.

Descripción
Criterios de inclusión:
- autónomo (ser capaz de seguir el programa de ejercicios) y sin deterioro cognitivo (prueba MOCA ≥21) ;
- estado de obesidad (IMC entre 30 y 40 kg/m2 o circunferencia de cintura superior a 102 cm para hombres y 88 cm para mujeres o masa grasa (%; total o androide o ginoide) igual o superior al 27% en hombres y al 40% en mujer;
- peso estable (± 5 kg) durante 6 meses;
- no fumadores y bebedores moderados (máx.: 15 g/día de alcohol);
- sin accidente cerebrovascular o antecedentes de accidente cerebrovascular;
- sedentario (menos de 2 horas de actividad física estructurada por semana);
- no estar involucrado en un programa de ejercicio vigoroso durante al menos 12 meses;
- puede entender francés
- mujeres posmenopáusicas (sin menstruación desde hace 60 meses consecutivos).
Criterio de exclusión:
- tener un implante de metal (marcapasos);
- asma que requiere tratamiento con esteroides orales;
- tomar otros medicamentos que puedan afectar el metabolismo o la función cardiovascular;
- tomando medicación anticoagulante.
- tomando terapia de reemplazo hormonal (solo para mujeres)

Los participantes que serán aleatorizados en el primer brazo se dividirán en citrulina más HIIT (CIT + HIIT o grupo A) o citrulina sola (CIT o grupo B).

La mitad de los participantes tomarán doce semanas de suplementos orales de citrulina (otros toman un placebo).
La suplementación con citrulina se tomará por vía oral.
Diez gramos de citrulina (polvo blanco) se mezclarán con un líquido diariamente.
La suplementación se consumirá una vez a la hora del almuerzo.
No se asignará ningún programa de ejercicios a los participantes.

PLACEBO_COMPARADOR: Placebo
Los participantes que serán aleatorizados en el segundo brazo se dividirán en placebo más HIIT (PLA + HIIT o grupo C) o placebo solo (PLA o grupo D).

La mitad de los participantes tomarán doce semanas de placebo oral.
Diez gramos de placebo (polvo blanco de maltodextrina) se mezclarán con un líquido y se consumirán una vez al día a la hora del almuerzo.

EXPERIMENTAL: Ejercicio
El participante que será aleatorizado en este brazo tendrá un programa de ejercicios (HIIT) agregado a su respectivo suplemento dietético.

La mitad de los participantes tomarán doce semanas de suplementos orales de citrulina (otros toman un placebo).
La suplementación con citrulina se tomará por vía oral.
Diez gramos de citrulina (polvo blanco) se mezclarán con un líquido diariamente.
La suplementación se consumirá una vez a la hora del almuerzo.
Los participantes también participarán en doce semanas de HIIT (30 s al 85 % o más de la frecuencia cardíaca máxima + 1 min 30 s al 60-75 % de la frecuencia cardíaca máxima (FC máx).
3 veces/semana durante 30 minutos continuos.
Cada período es supervisado y monitoreado utilizando la escala de Borg y el sistema polar.
