背景:
慢性阻塞性肺病 (COPD) 是美国死亡率和发病率的主要原因,影响了近 1000 万人。 COPD 每年导致 60,000 人死亡,是第四大死因。 如果目前的趋势继续下去,到 2000 年它可能成为美国第四甚至第三大死因。
流行病学研究一致表明,吸烟是加速肺功能下降和随后发展为 COPD 的压倒性危险因素。 此外,来自几项研究的证据表明,肺功能的下降速度接近于戒烟后更正常的下降速度。
肺功能加速下降的另一个假定风险因素是气道高反应性的存在,尽管尚不清楚仅仅是高反应性气道的存在导致加速下降,还是这种下降是由气道对各种刺激物的反应引起的很长一段时间。 如果在数年内通过药理手段使高反应性气道保持无反应性,则可能会减轻预期的异常下降。 戒烟可能会增强这种效果。

肺健康研究 I

肺健康研究 III
