バックグラウンド:
現在、約 1,700 万人のアメリカ人が糖尿病と診断されており、その 90% 以上が 2 型糖尿病です。 以前は成人発症糖尿病またはインスリン非依存性糖尿病として知られていた、この形態の糖尿病を持つ人々の数は急速に増加しています. 2050 年までに、糖尿病と診断されたアメリカ人の数は 165% 増加して 2,900 万人になり、そのうち 2,700 万人が 2 型になると予測されています。 心血管疾患 (CVD) は、2 型糖尿病患者の主要な死因です。これらの人々は、糖尿病でない人々よりも 2 倍から 4 倍高い割合で CVD で死亡します。 また、致命的ではない心臓発作や脳卒中も経験します。
2 型糖尿病は高齢に関連しており、過体重または肥満で糖尿病の家族歴がある人に多く見られます。 妊娠中の糖尿病の既往歴のある女性、耐糖能障害のある成人、座りっぱなしの生活を送っている人、人種や民族が少数派の人も、2 型糖尿病を発症するリスクが高くなります。 アフリカ系アメリカ人、ヒスパニック/ラテン系アメリカ人、アメリカ先住民、一部のアジア系アメリカ人、太平洋諸島系の人々は、2 型糖尿病のリスクが特に高くなります。
デザインの物語:

- 新しい米国糖尿病協会のガイドラインによって決定された 2 型糖尿病と診断されました。これには、126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) を超える空腹時血漿グルコースレベル、または経口ブドウ糖負荷試験での 2 時間後の負荷値が含まれます200mg/dl以上、再検査で確認
