Effetto del ginseng nel diabete di tipo 2

Efficacia e sicurezza dell'estratto di ginseng americano (Penax Quinquefolius) sul controllo glicemico in individui con diabete di tipo 2: uno studio clinico incrociato, randomizzato, in doppio cieco
Obiettivo: miriamo a valutare l'efficacia e la sicurezza a lungo termine dell'AG come terapia aggiuntiva nei pazienti con diabete di tipo 2 controllato dal trattamento convenzionale.
Materiali e metodi: nello studio sono stati arruolati un totale di 23 pazienti di tipo 2.
Utilizzando un design incrociato in doppio cieco, i partecipanti sono stati randomizzati a ricevere placebo o estratto di ginseng americano (AG) 1 g/pasto=3 g/giorno per 8 settimane, pur mantenendo il loro trattamento convenzionale per il diabete.
Dopo un periodo di washout di ≥4 settimane, i partecipanti passano a un altro braccio di trattamento di 8 settimane.
Durante il periodo di studio, tutti gli individui mantengono il loro trattamento originale per il diabete e uno stile di vita regolare.
L'endpoint primario è l'HbA1c, mentre il secondario è la glicemia a digiuno e l'insulina, la pressione sanguigna, i nitrati/nitriti sierici (NOx) e il PAI-1.
I parametri di sicurezza includono funzioni epatiche, renali ed emostatiche.

Criterio di inclusione:
- Presenza di diabete di tipo 2 di durata ≥1 anno
- BMI compreso tra 25 e 35 kg/m^2
- HbA1c tra 6,5 e 8,5%
Criteri di esclusione:
- Pazienti in terapia insulinica
- Funzionalità epatica o renale compromessa
- Complicanze diabetiche clinicamente manifestate
- Presenti problemi cardiaci
- Ipoglicemia incontrollata
- Fumatori di sigarette
- Consumo di alcol (>2 drink a settimana)
- Assunzione di ginseng o altra erba con possibile effetto ipoglicemizzante
- Coinvolgimento in altri studi sui farmaci sperimentali
- Farmaco cambiato durante il corso dei periodi di studio o durante il periodo di sospensione
