De EPASS is een multicenter, prospectieve, gerandomiseerde en gecontroleerde studie.
Voorafgaand aan deelname aan de studie moet de patiënt worden geïnformeerd en een schriftelijke toestemming geven. Bovendien moet de patiënt aan alle selectiecriteria voldoen. De onderzoeker moet controleren of aan alle selectiecriteria is voldaan. Vervolgens ondergaat de patiënt een pacemakerimplantatie en krijgt hij een pacemakermodel T70 of Selection 9000 (of latere versie).
Patiënten die in aanmerking komen voor de studie worden ingeschreven en onderworpen aan de evaluatie van intra-light atriale geleidingsvertraging voordat het implantaat wordt geïmplanteerd. Bovendien worden ze ingedeeld in de groep met ernstige RA-geleidingsvertraging of met normale geleidingsvertraging. De randomisatie van de stimulatieplaats voor beide groepen hangt af van de waarde van de rechter atriale geleidingsvertraging, samen met de bijbehorende ziekten van de patiënten, geslacht en leeftijd. Na implantatie is een stabilisatiefase van 3-5 weken nodig om de geleidingsdraden te stabiliseren: tijdens deze periode kan de arts de apparaatparameters optimaliseren. Noch de gegevens met betrekking tot AF-episodes, noch cardioversie worden verzameld.
Aan het einde van de stabilisatiefase ondergaat de patiënt de 1e follow-up van het onderzoek en start de monitoringperiode van 2 jaar. Regelmatige follow-ups en gegevensverzameling worden om de 6 maanden gepland.

Inclusiecriteria:
- Symptomatische disfunctie van de sinusknoop
- Meer dan 18 jaar oud
- Ondertekende geïnformeerde toestemming
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Minder dan 18 jaar oud
- Zwangerschap
- Anamnestische voorbijgaande ischemische aanval (TIA) of beroerte
- Neoplastische of een andere ernstige ziekte die de levensverwachting verkort
- Hartoperatie in de afgelopen 3 maanden
- Diameter linker atrium > 55 mm, bepaald in de parasternale lange-asweergave (tijdens sinusritme of atriale fibrillatie)
