Congenitale hartziekte (CHD) is een van de meest voorkomende geboorteafwijkingen in het VK. Kinderen met CHD lopen het risico op ondervoeding en ondervoeding. Dit is te wijten aan zowel de verhoogde voedingsbehoeften van de ziekte als soms aan de klinische behandeling, die vaak de levering van optimale voeding belemmert. postoperatieve complicaties, na grote hartoperaties.
Deze studie heeft tot doel de frequentie, typen en associaties van tekorten aan micronutriënten bij kinderen met CHZ te onderzoeken met behulp van standaard en nieuwe merkers in het bloed. De studie zal ook onderzoeken of tekorten aan micronutriënten het risico op complicaties na een hartoperatie verhogen. Deze studie zal eventuele tekorten aan voedingsstoffen identificeren die moeten worden gecontroleerd in de klinische praktijk.

Inclusiecriteria:
- Zuigeling of kind opgenomen voor electieve aangeboren hartchirurgie in het Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow.
- Leeftijd jonger dan 5 jaar
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Zuigeling of kind opgenomen voor een spoedoperatie aan het hart
- Baby of kind van wie de verzorger met ouderlijke verantwoordelijkheid niet in het Engels kan communiceren
