Gedetailleerde beschrijving
Onderzoekers zullen volwassenen bestuderen die een electieve buikoperatie ondergaan met een minimaal matig risico op postoperatieve longcomplicaties.
Deelnemers worden op hun borst en dij gevolgd met apparaten die hun ademhalingspatroon (ademvolume en frequentie) en lichaamspositie en bewegingen registreren. Deze monitoren worden op de post-anesthesiezorgeenheid (PACU) op hun huid geplaatst en blijven drie dagen aan, of totdat de patiënt vrij kan rondlopen of tot ontslag uit het ziekenhuis, afhankelijk van wat zich eerder voordoet. Onderzoekers zullen het verband analyseren tussen de frequentie, duur en intensiteit van verschillende activiteiten (bijvoorbeeld zitten, lopen) en ademhaling en andere klinische complicaties, in combinatie met ontvangen medicijnen en andere ziekenhuisgebeurtenissen.

Inclusiecriteria:
- Moet 18 jaar of ouder zijn
- Moet een buikoperatie ondergaan
- Moet een hoog risico opleveren voor PPC's (ARISCAT-score gelijk aan of groter dan 26)
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Iedereen onder de 18 jaar
- Iedereen die geen buikoperatie ondergaat
- Iedereen die geen hoog risico loopt op PPC's (ARISCAT-score minder dan 26)

Postoperatieve monitoring
Er wordt een ActivPAL-versnellingsmeter op de borst en het dijbeen geplaatst, een ExSpiron-monitor op de borst, en de patiënt wordt gedurende drie dagen geobserveerd, totdat hij volledig ambulant is (in staat om 30 meter te lopen zonder hulp, met of zonder rollator), of tot ontslag ; wat eerder komt.
