Studies van de bloedtoevoer naar de hersenen tijdens het denken
Regionale cerebrale bloedstroomstudies van objectperceptie, identificatie, lokalisatie en geheugen
Het doel van deze studie is om hersenbeeldvormingstechnologie te gebruiken om veranderingen in de bloedstroom naar gebieden in de hersenen te meten terwijl individuen intellectuele taken uitvoeren.
Deze studie zal functionele magnetische resonantiebeeldvorming (fMRI) gebruiken om de bloedstroom naar delen van de hersenen te onderzoeken terwijl deelnemers taken uitvoeren die verband houden met visuele perceptie, visuele herkenning en geheugen.

Doelstelling:
Ons doel is om de functionele organisatie van het intacte menselijke brein te bestuderen door cognitieve taken en neuroimaging te combineren. Functionele magnetische resonantie beeldvorming (fMRI), magneto-encefalografie (MEG) en elektro-encefalografie (EEG) zullen worden gebruikt om hersenactiviteit te meten bij gezonde proefpersonen die cognitieve taken uitvoeren. Deze taken behandelen specifieke vragen met betrekking tot de neurale systemen die perceptie, aandacht, geheugen, besluitvorming, emotie, plasticiteit en sociale interacties mediëren. respectievelijk fMRI en MEG zullen worden gebruikt om de ruimtelijke en temporele aspecten van deze neurale systemen te onderzoeken.
Studiepopulatie:
Normale vrijwillige deelnemers van 18-65 jaar, die in goede algemene gezondheid verkeren, zullen worden gerekruteerd uit de lokale gemeenschap en worden bestudeerd volgens dit protocol met minimale risico's.
Ontwerp:
Onderwerpen zullen cognitieve taken uitvoeren in gedrags- en/of neuroimaging-sessies (fMRI of MEG).
Uitkomstmaten:
Gedrag als prestatie op cognitieve taken en hersenactiviteit (fMRI en MEG) zullen worden gecombineerd om informatie te verkrijgen over de neurale correlaten en processen die ten grondslag liggen aan verschillende aspecten van menselijke cognitie, waaronder visuele waarneming, geheugen, leren, emotie, sociale cognitie, besluitvorming en aandacht.

Beschrijving
- INSLUITINGSCRITERIA:
Gezonde volwassenen, met ten minste een middelbare schoolopleiding, in de leeftijd van 18 tot 65 jaar, zullen worden geworven om deel te nemen aan het onderzoek.
UITSLUITINGSCRITERIA:
Onderwerpen worden uitgesloten als ze:
- een NIMH-werknemer of een familielid bent
- bewijs hebben van, of een voorgeschiedenis hebben van:
- ernstige medische, neurologische of psychiatrische aandoening
- ernstig hoofdletsel
- leerstoornis - drugs- of alcoholmisbruik of afhankelijkheid in de afgelopen 3 maanden, behalve nicotine
-medicijnen of supplementen gebruikt die de hersenfunctie kunnen beïnvloeden-
- ernstige zicht- of gehoorproblemen heeft
Naast het bovenstaande gelden voor alle MRI-onderzoeken aanvullende uitsluitingscriteria:
- Vrouwelijke proefpersonen die 24 uur voorafgaand aan een experiment zwanger zijn of een positieve zwangerschapstest hebben, worden uitgesloten van neuroimaging-onderzoeken.
- Alle proefpersonen zullen voorafgaand aan de MRI-scan worden ondervraagd over mogelijke beroepsmatige blootstelling aan metalen splinters of schaafsel, die per ongeluk in de weefsels van het hoofd of de nek kunnen zijn blijven steken. Proefpersonen met chirurgische clips of granaatscherven in of nabij de hersenen of bloedvaten, proefpersonen met cochleaire implantaten, proefpersonen met een metalen voorwerp in het oog of CZS, en proefpersonen met enige vorm van implantaatdraad of metalen apparaat dat radiofrequente velden kan concentreren, worden uitgesloten van MRI-scanexperimenten vanwege mogelijke risico's tijdens MRI-scanning. Degenen van wie de geschiedenis een dergelijk probleem suggereert, zullen ook worden uitgesloten van het MRI-gedeelte van de experimenten. Zij mogen nog steeds deelnemen aan de gedrags- en MEG-experimenten.
- Proefpersonen die maximaal 2 uur niet plat op hun rug kunnen liggen, komen mogelijk niet in aanmerking voor deelname aan MRI-scans.
